Doing The Most Good in Greater Philadelphia
About us
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Programs throughout Greater Philadelphia include (but are not limited to): Hunger Relief: We provide emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, and more to help those facing food insecurity. We serve food to our underserved children in our after-school programs, the elderly at our senior programs, forgotten friends at our homeless shelters, people looking to better their lives at our addiction recovery facilities, survivors rebuilding their lives after a disaster, and domestic violence/anti-human trafficking victims. Emergency Assistance: We help those in need with emergency assistance requests including rent/mortgage, utilities, clothing, furniture, prescriptions, and more depending on the need. Trained case managers meet with clients to help them with their needs/work through the barriers they face. Senior Programs: These services include adult day care centers, senior housing residences, and older adult centers which provide educational, spiritual, and skill-based programs. There is help for veterans, community care ministries for those who are homebound/hospitalized, counseling, and more. Housing: Our emergency, transitional, and permanent housing options have an open-door policy when it comes to those needing help, whether they need a place to rest at night or assistance finding a way to stay in their own home. Anti-Human Trafficking: Our program provides a consistent, safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment. We aim to create a space where individuals can work to reclaiming control over their lives. Holiday Assistance: Every year, we provide gifts for children in need, warm meals, and a support system to families. We aim to bring joy back into the season.

🍩 🍩 🍩 Happy National Donut Day! Did you know that donuts became a symbol of hope during World War I? It all started when Salvation Army volunteers served freshly made donuts to soldiers on the front lines, bringing comfort and a taste of home to those far from it. Today, we honor this tradition by celebrating not just with sweet treats, but by sharing kindness and care. This year, we partnered with Federal Donuts & Chicken once again to provide Salvation Army-themed donuts to our hardworking staff and those they serve every day. Thank you to Federal Donuts for helping spread cheer this Donut Day, the day was filled with smiles!

Thanks to the generosity of FedEx, we’ve added a brand-new Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) canteen to our fleet! This mobile vehicle will deploy with our EDS teams to provide food, water, and support to survivors and first responders during disasters across Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. Yesterday, we gathered at our Divisional Headquarters in Philadelphia with representatives from FedEx, The Salvation Army USA, local officials, and community partners for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. This marks the 26th canteen FedEx has donated to The Salvation Army since 2006—an incredible commitment to helping communities in times of crisis. #FedExCares #DoingTheMostGood #SalvationArmy

Since Friday evening, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services team has been in Northeast Philly providing essential supplies, care, and comfort. We have seen Philadelphia come together to offer resources to those impacted. As both the site and community members work to handle the area and catastrophe, our front-line staff and volunteers have distributed over 1,500 fresh hot meals, 3,958 drinks, 3,780 snacks, and 1,650 handwarmers since the incident took place. While we will continue to provide essential support, we also mourn the loss from this tragedy. As we embark on the new year, we would like to take a moment to share our success and appreciation this past holiday season. Throughout the Greater Philadelphia area, alongside our partners, we were able to distribute almost 15,000 toys to children and families in need. Across our community centers, housing facilities, and other assistance programs, #SalArmyPhilly was able to provide essential care to thousands of people in the city. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers, donors, and sponsors who joined us in bringing support and joy to those who need it most. #HappyNewYear #ThankYou
