Dev: Storybook for a11y 🤝 CI: Chromatic for a11y regressions + dashboard
We cut our total accessibility violations by over 66% in the last 6 weeks. Here's how: Over the years, we accrued a11y debt because it was everyone and no one's responsibility. Sure, we did VPATs but they were out of date the moment they were finished. It was only when we considered a11y a pipeline and not a checklist that things actually changed. We were able to block merging regressions and finally had visibility into the scope of the issues. Comment below for our exact technical approach. We went from +17,000 to 6,579.

🚀 Still can't believe my Storybook add-on hit 27K weekly downloads! For those unfamiliar, Storybook lets you build UI components in isolation - no backend, no dependencies, just pure component development. But writing tests for these components? That was always a manual, boring process. I kept thinking: Playwright has this amazing code generation feature where you hit record, interact with your UI, and boom - it converts your actions into test code. Why didn't this exist for Storybook? During Christmas holidays, I finally decided to build it myself. What started as a weekend prototype turned into something the community actually needed ✨ What's cool about it? --> Hit the record button --> Click, type, interact with your components --> Watch your actions convert to test code automatically --> Save time and reduce the tedium of manual test writing The Storybook core team has been absolutely incredible throughout this journey. They helped solve tricky technical challenges, promoted the add-on at conferences, and even featured it in their Storybook 9 release notes 🙌 Special thanks to 🚀 Yann Braga, Jeppe Reinhold, and Michael Shilman from the Storybook team for their support and encouragement. This is what makes open source beautiful - community collaboration that lifts everyone up. From just our team using it to 27K weekly downloads... this feels unreal! 🤯 Open source doesn't always work out, but when maintainers and community rally behind your work, magic happens. The Storybook team has been exploring AI & agent-based UI development — and we're finally ready to share some of our learnings and prototypes! Two new RFCs we'd love feedback on: 🧩 Agents that write & update stories as they generate UI: https://hubs.li/Q03HVqpq0 📚 Teaching agents to use your design system correctly (props, patterns, examples): https://hubs.li/Q03HVpDh0 Please check out the work, let us know if you like the direction, if you'd want us to focus somewhere else, if you have suggestions for how we can improve it (Prompt Engineering is hard!)

The upcoming Storybook release introduces just one notable breaking change: Storybook 10 will be ESM-only. That means: ✔️ 15% smaller than Storybook 9 ✔️ Fewer CJS-related issues ✔️ Full ESM syntax support (import.meta.resolve, etc) ✔️ Stories and config files need to be valid ESM (our migration tools will help, of course) We’re thrilled to bring you a leaner, simpler, and more forward-looking Storybook. You can start exploring it now in the Storybook 10 beta. For guidance, see the migration guide: https://hubs.li/Q03HzT_M0

We've been researching what AI means for Storybook, and how we can improve your experience with agents when working on UI and stories. We have an experimental MCP addon ready that we'd love for you to try out: https://hubs.li/Q03GXn2c0 It's still early, and we plan to share our research results with y'all soon, but if you're just eager to play around with some of our results, please check it out!

Accessibility often lags behind because testing doesn’t match how we build software. Why? - Audits live outside the dev workflow - Page-level tests create noise - CI/CD gets blocked by a ton of old issues Join me at SquiggleConf to build an accessibility pipeline using Storybook that catches accessibility issues at the root: components.
