🌍“If you want credits in four or five years, the projects have to start today. We’re making that more feasible.” Writing for Sustainable Brands, Scarlett Buckley published an in-depth feature on how insurance is unlocking climate finance in the voluntary carbon market. The piece looks at why early-stage projects often struggle to attract funding, how lack of trust and delivery risk have slowed investment, and why insurance is emerging as the missing infrastructure to help the market move forward with confidence. It also highlights our approach of offering insurance from the idea stage, giving developers, financiers and buyers the assurance they need to start projects sooner and at greater scale. A thoughtful read on the challenges and opportunities shaping the next phase of carbon markets. 🔗 Read the article in the comment section. #carbonmarkets #climatefinance #netzero #carboncredits #climatesolutions

My kids recently demanded we rewatch a documentary on how development has fragmented and shrunk the endangered Florida panther's range. As they patch together habitat, panthers are being fatally struck when crossing roads. Viewers find photographer Carlton Ward Jr. waist deep in a flooded forest, deploying camera traps to try to tell the story and save the remaining wildlife corridors. You can’t help but feel the weight of his soggy, slow progress vs the pace of all they’re up against. Similar issues are playing out in our ocean. While no roads physically fragment endangered whale habitat, heavily trafficked international shipping lanes have impacts. Like with panthers and cars, whales have not evolved to avoid these large vessels used to move the majority of our goods. The good news is that there are ways companies that rely on #oceanfreight can help. Companies can start by asking their shipping partners to relay info about their cooperation with whale protection measures, and prioritize working with those demonstrating effort. (Link in comments for article and more info.) Examples: > Pacific Northwest: Quiet Sound encourages reduced speeds to protect the critically endangered Southern Resident Killer Whale #SRKW from noise pollution. > East Coast: Mandatory speed restriction measures exist to protect the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale #NARW. > California: Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program (my team!) verifies shipping lines’ cooperation with voluntary speed reduction requests to protect endangered fin, humpback, and blue whales. > [And - thanks to Danielle Alvarez and Jessica Morten with California Marine Sanctuary Foundation - this week mariners will be able to easily access & download data from our new Whale Atlas for #whale-safer shipping *across the globe*.] Doubt they'll see this but thanks for all you are doing Grizzly Creek Films, Eric Bendick, Carlton Ward Jr and all the many people amplifying solutions and what's at stake. It's obvious why Path of the Panther won an Emmy. Over the past 50 years, wildlife populations have declined by 73%, and species are going extinct at unprecedented rates. While habitat fragmentation on land gets attention, our oceans face similar hidden risks. Shipping lanes now cross 92% of whale habitats, exposing endangered species to collisions, noise pollution, and disruption of critical feeding and migration patterns. The good news? Solutions exist, and companies that rely on maritime freight can play a direct role by working with shipping lines that adopt these measures. As Becca Tucker, Director of Corporate Engagement at the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation, emphasizes, healthy oceans are essential for healthy businesses. Protecting marine biodiversity safeguards long-term growth, supply chain resilience, and the global economy. https://lnkd.in/eBqqapnr #Biodiversity #MarineConservation #SupplyChain #ClimateAction

London-based startup Artio is the first insurer designed specifically to cover carbon-credit projects from the concept phase, before a single tree is planted or a ton of carbon is removed. “We want to... support projects coming to market and help investors worry less about the risks. That’s why we chose insurance: we saw it as a stabilizing force with real power to unlock scale," Artio co-founder and CEO Bilal Hussain told Sustainable Brands. Backed by Tokio Marine HCC, Markel, Apollo, and with one of the fastest-ever approvals at Lloyd's of London, Artio is building the infrastructure to make carbon markets trustworthy, scalable, and inclusive. https://lnkd.in/eAu9BwpY

🌟 “Why are we still working in a way that doesn’t work?” That was the bold question Dr Ellen Joan Ford put on the table as she took the stage as keynote speaker at the first edition of Sustainable Brands Aotearoa – The Value of Purpose. Ellen’s talk was one of those rare moments where the whole room leaned in. Equal parts energy, authenticity, and straight-talking truth, she reminded us that belonging, autonomy, and purpose are the foundation of thriving workplaces. Work should fit life, not the other way around. And when people feel great, they do their best work. The audience loved her vibe!“Inspiring and uplifting – a conference like no other.” No wonder, you could just tell purpose is her guiding force in life: "Why do I get up every morning? There has to be a meaning behind it. For me, the purpose of life is love and connection. Whatever you do in life, you want to know it matters!” And when it comes to leadership? “True leadership is about creating an environment where people can thrive. Where that thriving energy is directed and the task that has to be achieved.” From the battlefield to the boardroom, Dr Ellen Joan Ford has shown again and again that leadership is about creating workplaces where everyone can show up as their whole selves. Watch this snippet from her keynote and feel the energy for yourself. 💚 Our next stop? Sustainable Brands ’25 San Diego, October 13–16, your gateway to global connections. Join the New Zealand delegation and stay tuned for more information! Thank you for believing in the power of purpose and helping us build something extraordinary in Aotearoa. #SustainableBrandsAotearoa
