About us

Promoting the well-being of humanity since 1913. Since our founding, The Rockefeller Foundation has brought people together around the globe to try to solve the world’s most challenging problems and promote the well-being of humanity. Today, in a world capable of so much, it is unacceptable that there are still so many with so little. That’s why The Rockefeller Foundation fights to secure the fundamentals of human well-being—health, food, energy, jobs—so they’re within reach for everyone, everywhere in the world. Our approach is grounded in what we’ve seen work over more than a century: It’s inspired by science, rigorous about data, brings together and empowers others, and is focused on real results that improve people’s lives.

  • Yesterday we announced our new initiative to transform global cooperation–Build the Shared Future. Despite growing competition and shrinking aid budgets, a new survey of 36,000 adults across 34 countries reveals a surprising truth: people still want international cooperation—but only when it works. Our key findings show: 🌐 75% of people support cooperation when it's proven effective 🌐 More than 90% of people see cooperation as vital for jobs, health, climate, and poverty 🌐 Only 42% of people believe current systems serve their personal interests The message is clear: The world wants modern, effective cooperation that delivers results. What worked so well in the 20th century may not amid the challenges of the 21st. But we're already seeing new blueprints for success in initiatives around the world. Join us as we convene world-class leaders to reimagine the systems that matter most, scale what works, and build the shared future we all need. https://lnkd.in/e6bRRfMB

  • Big news: We're launching Build The Shared Future—an initiative to reimagine global cooperation. A new survey of 36,000 people across 34 countries reveals the truth: ➡ 75% support international cooperation when it actually works ➡ 90%+ believe cooperation is vital for jobs, health, and climate ➡ But only 42% think current systems serve their interests The gap is clear: People want cooperation that delivers results, not just promises. We're bringing together world-class experts to restructure global health systems, reimagine humanitarian food systems, and build new frameworks for cooperation. Time to move beyond outdated systems and build something that works for everyone. https://lnkd.in/ezqsDCiJ

  • Starting this week, heads of state from around the globe will gather in New York for #UNGA80. While the plenary sessions capture headlines, some of the most transformative work happens in the strategic convenings on the sidelines. These gatherings aren't just meetings—they're where trust is built, solutions are co-created, and lasting partnerships are forged. When we bring the right people together in the right way, we unlock pathways for progress that wouldn't otherwise be possible. As the African proverb reminds us: "If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together." Strategic convening is how we go far together, turning conversations into commitments and commitments into lasting change. See why we convene and how it's become central to our strategy for creating transformative impact. • The status quo in Africa of 600 million people lacking electricity is unsustainable. Mission 300 can change that. During the second day of the Africa Climate Summit, The World Bank’s and African Development Bank Group’s Mission 300 initiative took center stage. This initiative aims to connect 300 million people in sub-Saharan Africa to affordable and productive levels of energy. Here’s how: ⚡ Generating affordable electricity through the adoption of least-cost principles and considering all available energy sources. ⚡ Advocating for interconnected grids to facilitate cross-country energy trading. ⚡ Fostering a business-friendly environment that will attract private sector investment, which is expected to provide at least 50% of the required resources. Through #Mission300, we’re charting a new, more resilient path of development and economic prosperity for Africa at Africa Climate Summit and beyond. #AfricaClimateSummit #PoweringAfrica

  • Interested in what leaders at the Africa Climate Summit are talking about? Here are some top priorities on their minds: 🟢 Africa’s not backing down: African countries are all in on climate commitments. In fact, countries are championing climate adaptation and mitigation to ensure communities are well equipped to withstand the impacts of extreme weather. 🟢 Country leadership is vital: For #Mission300, countries are now leading the efforts, which signals a need for national-level autonomy on initiatives that can deliver results for its citizens. 🟢 Coordination with the private sector: In order to advance development initiatives, the private sector must be a key partner and convener to drive progress forward. It’s clear that African leadership is necessary in our collective fight against climate change. Africa is paving the way, and we must follow. #ACS2 #AfricaClimateSummit #PoweringAfrica

  • Day one of the Second Africa Climate Summit (#ACS2) in Addis Ababa delivered a powerful call to action. As Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali stated, "We are not here to negotiate our survival. We're here to design the world's next climate economy." This focus on innovation and investment—not just aid—aligns perfectly with The Rockefeller Foundation's approach. Our pavilion was buzzing with activity as we demonstrated our ability to convene unlikely partners, build trust, collaborate on solutions, and deliver results for people. Today's highlights included SVP of Health Naveen Rao speaking on critical climate-health connections, while VP for Africa William Asiko addressed how philanthropic capital can accelerate ecosystem transformation. We're proud to be at the heart of these conversations alongside partners including the GoK Clean Cooking Delivery Unit, Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA), Wellcome Trust, and Science for Africa Foundation. Together, we're focused on three key areas: 🔋 Ending Energy Poverty through catalytic capital initiatives like #Mission300 to power a green economy for all 🌱 Transforming Food Systems & Health by building climate-smart agriculture and resilient health systems through programs like our #RSM initiative 💡 Catalyzing African Innovation by supporting local leaders developing global solutions to the climate crisis This summit represents our opportunity to turn strategic investments into real-world solutions, led by Africa, to address the most pressing issues of our time. #AfricaClimateSummit #ACS2 #TheRockefellerFoundation #ClimateAction #InvestmentInAfrica #PoweringAfrica #AfricanInnovation

  • Recently, we released a toolkit giving governments and investors a guide to fund regenerative agriculture and school meals together, financing from national budgets, climate funds, and private investors. To international funders everywhere: this is your roadmap to smarter investments that deliver on multiple priorities, including nutrition, education, agriculture, climate, and fiscal stability. • 🌏 Big news coming out of our partnership with AVPN! We're proud to support the Asia Partnership for Investment in Resilient Economies (ASPIRE) to scale citizen-led solutions and connect capital to real communities. 💸🌱 Learn more below 👇

Too often, conversations about development finance happen far from the communities they aim to serve. That’s why The Rockefeller Foundation supports ASPIRE, a new effort being led by AVPN to put community priorities at the center of Asia’s development future. As the continent prepares to take the global stage at the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group meetings in Bangkok, ASPIRE is working to close the region’s $2.5 trillion sustainable development financing gap by connecting capital to projects being led by the very people who live there. I’m grateful to our partners at AVPN, and especially to my colleague, Deepali Khanna, who leads our Asia Regional Office and continues to champion regional leadership, deeper collaboration, and equity-driven change. https://lnkd.in/e9qXxUnf
