👋 Just got back from my first Climate Week in far too long, and it did not disappoint. I loved catching up with friends old and new and diving into some truly important conversations. No surprise — everyone was talking about the business case for sustainability. How do you keep it top of mind for leaders when they’re juggling a lot of priorities? One learning I shared during my talks: influence doesn’t only happen in boardrooms or come with a formal meeting invite. With priorities like AI dominating agendas, sustainability needs fresh ways in. Some of my most effective strategies have been async Confluence reads so leaders can digest important details on their own time, or Loom videos via Slack to share updates on initiatives or blockers. Progress happens when you get creative, build relationships, and meet people where they are. That’s how we keep sustainability moving forward, even when attention is (understandably) split. Thank you to Patch and Sustainability Magazine for having me. 💙

Here's what you can expect to see from the sustainability leaders who attended Rebalance/Recharge — our executive summit designed to prime decision makers for action on AI, business, and climate to accelerate their impact in 2025 and beyond. While the contents of the day's sessions and workshops were shared under Chatham House Rule, we wanted to share a few broad and general takeaways without attribution. Take a look at the highlights from the panel sessions and fireside chat featuring: Bee Hui Yeh Joe Speicher Jessica Hyman Shyla Raghav Brennan Spellacy Suzanne DiBianca Nat Bullard Jenny Roy Sophie Graham Chelsea Mozen Matthew Bell Thank you to all our attendees and partners!

Our own Dan Wesche, PhD sat down with Kirsten Love to talk about what makes high-global warming potential greenhouse gases so important to keep out of the atmosphere and why big buyers are increasingly focused on funding the projects that find them and destroy them. CFC-12, also known as Freon, used to be widely used in car air conditioners. Properly disposing of just three small cans is equivalent to avoiding the emissions of a Ford F150 for a year. Watch the rest of Dan's interview and reach out to Patch for a consultation with Dan or another expert on our team today.

"If you just find three old cans of refrigerant and destroy the gas inside, it’s the same as taking a Ford F150 off the road for a year." 💨 At #ClimateWeekNYC, Kirsten Love, Tradewater, sat down with Dan Wesche, PhD of Patch, to explore why tackling non-CO2 #superpollutants like refrigerants and methane is such a powerful climate lever. Check out this interview to learn more about how these projects deliver measurable, immediate climate impact at an attractive price point. 🔎 Watch more on the We Don't Have Time Climate Hub: https://lnkd.in/dxvauMmu #climateaction #carboncredits

Climate Week NYC 2025 has been the biggest yet, with more than 1,000 events across the city. The message was clear: the world doesn’t need more promises, it needs proof. I have been honored to speak and moderate across conversations on business, policy, health, culture, and community. A few standouts: • Rebalance / Recharge CSO Summit: Climate strategy only works when it is embedded across operations, supply chains, and investment decisions. Thank you to Bee Hui Yeh for your vision pulling this together Patch • Opening Ceremony with Gloria Walton Mark Ruffalo and Dr Andrew Forrest Fortescue: The call was for accountability over new targets. The focus is on closing the gap between promises and proof. Thank you to Adam Lake for your leadership and the Climate Group for building such a consequential platform • DVF / Daughters for Earth / Vital Voices Global Partnership : Women leaders emphasized climate justice and how culture can expand the movement. Thank you Alyse Nelson Zainab Salbi for creating space for this conversation • COP30 / High Level Champions: The global stocktake must become funded roadmaps, not just reports. Dan Ioschpe Nigar Arpadarai • Carbon Newbie Summit: Literacy is leverage. Climate progress depends on raising the floor of understanding. Thank you Michelle Li for this great convening • NEST Climate Campus with L'Oréal : Circularity and regenerative sourcing are becoming essential to brand credibility and opportunity. Nobles Crawford Alexander Habib • National Academy of Medicine: Climate and health are inseparable. Resilience depends on both. Seema Wadhwa Ali Zaidi Chris Hanley • UN Office of Partnerships Goals Lounge: Many opportunities exist to tap into cultural influence through live events, musicians, athletes. Reverb • TIME100 Climate Leadership Forum: Our flagship event spotlighted solutions and reminded us that accountability grows stronger when business, policy, and culture align. Was wonderful to share the stage with Pam Cheng Wally Adeyemo Greg Jackson My reflection: At its core, climate progress is about narrative. How we frame the story of risk, resilience, and opportunity determines who leans in, who invests, and who acts. Shifting the narrative from incremental change to systemic transformation is the lever that moves ambition into reality. Looking ahead to #COP30, the task is clear. Align resources, political will, and storytelling in service of impact. #ClimateWeekNYC #TIME100Climate #ClimateAction #Narrative

We've written extensively about the need for the demand side of the voluntary carbon market to scale up quickly. The barriers to that kind of acceleration aren't a secret — leaders at the company level need to bake carbon credit purchasing into their climate strategies as one way to create short and long-term impact. But why? And just as importantly, how? Sustainable Markets Initiative has created an invaluable demand mobilization guide for CEOs to build the case for carbon markets as a complement to aggressive decarbonization. It also contains insights for doing it effectively and with integrity. We were proud to be a part of putting this together alongside SMI, EY, Climate Asset Management, and Bank of America.

This week during Climate Week NYC 2025, the Sustainable Markets Initiative and Morgan Stanley convened leaders across the voluntary carbon market (VCM) ecosystem to explore opportunities to scale high-integrity carbon markets. The event marked one year of the SMI Carbon Market Lighthouse Project, established at Climate Week NYC 2024, and saw the launch of the SMI CEO Mobilisation Guide for the Voluntary Carbon Market - a practical playbook to equip business leaders, policymakers and regulators with key considerations and best practices to effectively engage with VCMs and drive meaningful climate action. Thank you to our panel of experts for sharing their insights and strategies: - Martin Berg (Lighthouse Project CEO Champion) CEO, Climate Asset Management - Peter Reinhardt, CEO, Charm Industrial - Gillian Lofts, Global Financial Services Sustainability Leader, EY - Iain Mackay, Global Head of Environmental Markets, Morgan Stanley And special thanks to Morgan Stanley for co-hosting and to all SMI members for their continued leadership and commitment in driving forward this critical agenda. Prior to the workshop sessions at Rebalance/Recharge, all our attendees (every one a sustainability leader with decision-making capability) set an intention for action. In one of these workshops, the output was focused specifically on the strategic use of AI in service of the climate. In another, it was focused on expanding the organizational impact of the sustainability function. While the contents of these discussions were secret under Chatham House Rule to encourage candor, Patch recently published a guide that includes real-world playbooks touching on both those topics in the context of carbon credit procurement. You'll find learnings from experts at Bain & Company, Docusign, Etsy, and Nokia — some of whom were in attendance at Rebalance/Recharge. If you were unable to attend this closed-door event, this guide is the next best thing. If you were there, some of the ideas (as well as unique content) are already crystalized in the pages.
