In K-12 education, people completely overstate the impact of tools and resources and understate the impact of educators. This leads to an overcrowded market of "things" to give to educators and a lack of coherence around the instructional models and associated training needed to actually capitalize on the "things". Building a new resource or edtech tool feels safe. You can control for all the variables. Imagine a set of constraints that allows your product to thrive. Demo it in ways that showcase its maximum potential. But introducing it into the messy world of teaching is tough. It's the hardest step. It's the riskiest step. But it's the only step that really matters.

Starting your job search for K12 leadership roles at the school, charter network, or district level? Here are some tips: 🎯 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥 - What did you accomplish? - Why does it matter? - No, seriously - state WHY it matters! - How did you work with others to make it happen? - How did you measure? If you’ve taught, been a department chair, been an assistant principal, been a principal, been a principal manager - you have measurable data. You have attendance data, you have norm reference assessment data, you have state assessment data, you have # of family contacts. The biggest issue is people are humble on resumes and do not share this information. BE YOUR BIGGEST CHAMPION and share the is information! ⏰ 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 This may sound silly. Take your time on the application. Typos, incomplete information, not answering the question asked, etc. can get your application rejected or moved to the back of the line. I know we say this to students all of the time so it feels like second nature but it’s a good reminder for adults too! 🔎 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Questions are either behavioral (what you’ve already done) or situational (what you would do). This is not the time to wax poetic! Take the question, and concisely answer the question. If it’s a behavioral question, use your results from your resume to explain exactly what you’ve done, what you accomplished, why it matters, and how you worked out others to get it done. If it’s a situational question, state how your approach the situation and (again) state how you’ve already built the muscle memory with your past work using examples.
