About

I thrive at the intersection of technology, product thinking, and cross-functional leadership. I aspire to be a leader and innovator who brings together product, engineering, design, business strategy, and customer needs to create impactful products at scale. My approach is rooted in collaboration and problem-solving, always seeking to balance innovation with real-world usability. While I have played key roles in shaping billion-dollar businesses, launching industry-defining products, and leading global teams, my focus has always been on empowering others, simplifying complexity, and driving meaningful outcomes rather than chasing personal recognition. I strongly believe that great products come from listening deeply to customers, fostering strong teams, and iterating relentlessly. I’m a believer that career success is not about individual achievement but about building exciting cultures and driving teams that continue to thrive long after I’m gone.

During this time, we were taken private by a Private Equity Collation for $10.1B. Mikkel, the original board, and most of the C-Suite left, and I started reporting to a first time CEO from one of the firms. During these changes, my teams stayed focused and stepped up to drive significant innovation. We pivoted to a reasoning based product and grew at rapid scale, ensuring that our vision looked ahead while maintaining simplicity for the consumer. We collaborated closely with other functional teams to deliver on a complete market lifecycle. I traveled globally and met with many of our Fortune 500 customers, constantly pushing to understand the customer to improve the experience and value. My mission was to ensure that Zendesk remained a leader in customer service technology, offering solutions that are both innovative and impactful while evolving and modernizing its offerings.

I left Zendesk to explore new opportunities that aligned more closely with my original reasons for joining.

Our primary focus was on innovating within Amazon's new advertising business, notably driving the innovation, strategy, and execution of the Sponsored Brands program. This initiative significantly contributed to Amazon's advertising expansion, with Sponsored Brands ads accounting for 23% of Amazon's pay-per-click ad business and experiencing a 25% year-over-year increase in spending, as reported in Merkle's Q1 2021 Digital Marketing Report. Our holistic approach integrated product innovation, machine learning, data science, technology, and financial oversight, embedding enhanced advertising experiences into trillions of customer interactions across Amazon's platforms. This strategy was instrumental in Amazon's overall ad revenues reaching $24.47 billion in 2021, representing 11.6% of the U.S. digital advertising market. Beyond advertising, I collaborated on enterprise-wide strategic initiatives, influencing various facets of the customer experience including: Brand Stores, feed Based Discover, and Streaming Experiences.

This was a Sequoia VC backed company with Doug Leone as the board chair. I introduced ML based-prediction and fulfillment to construction projects. During my leadership, we significantly increased revenue, boosting it from $30 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) to over $100 million, which played a pivotal role in positioning the company for its successful acquisition by Autodesk. I drove expansion and enhancement of our R&D capabilities, laying the groundwork for PlanGrid's innovative Construction Graph. Under the leadership of Craig Barratt, CEO of Access, my team developed Google WiFi, which became the top-selling mesh router globally. I was responsible for starting and delivering the product from inception, technical delivery, and retail expansion. This initiative was akin to a well funded startup and our focus on simplicity, quality, and capability set a new standard. David Pouge of the New York Times called it, “The WiFi Router Steve Jobs Might Have Built.”

Under Alfred Spector, Head of Google Research, I collaborated with global industry, political, and philanthropic leaders, leveraging technology to address global challenges. The projects were broad and complex and required innovation, applying Google’s tech to disrupt. The projects included: Election Platforms, Global Flu Prediction, Internet Access, and Energy. These efforts contributed to my team winning the IEEE Company of the Year award in 2013.

Under Susan Wojcicki in Advertising & Commerce, I developed AI-driven decision platforms and deep learning for AdWords, enhancing ad effectiveness for SMBs. This included smart bidding strategies and recommendations, allowing businesses to make better decisions and reach their customers.

Under Bill Coughran, SVP of Infrastructure and Systems, I helped revolutionizing the company's infrastructure during a period of escalating complexity. Our team pioneered modern, cloud-based build and testing systems, notably developing tools like Blaze, a build and test automation system that has since been adopted industry-wide. My team's work was instrumental in maintain Google's rapid pace of innovation.

I left Google in 2016 when I was interested in joining an early stage start up company.

Under Satya Nadella’s Dynamic Division, 2002-4, my role was to focus on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, I contributed to the strategic planning and execution of business products. This included integrating several large international acquisitions and deepened my understanding of business apps and their importance to Microsoft's moat against the innovator’s dilemma.

Under the Enterprise Server Division, 1999-2002, I transitioned to working on distributed systems and apps leading the first version of the workflow and rules engine, BizTalk Server. My team delivered SQL Server’s MDAC stack, pioneering interoperable services that allow diverse applications to communicate over the internet. I also led Host Integration Server that allowed Microsoft Systems to integrate with legacy IBM databases.

Within the Advanced Technology Team from 1995-9, I focused on micro-operating systems and devices, contributing to the early development of set-top box technologies and streaming video systems. This period involved enabling internet access through television sets, marking a significant advancement in consumer electronics. These innovations laid the groundwork for Microsoft's ventures into the embedded systems market, interactive television services, and Windows CE.
