The method allows for the user to define one or more applications or contents to be categorized. Prior to unlocking of the display module associated with the electronic device, the method detects whether the type of content or the type of application that will be displayed on the display device post unlocking is in a predetermined category. In case the type of content or the type of application is in the predetermined category, the user is informed of the same. By way of example, the method changes the unlocking mechanism or a colour of a current unlocking mechanism if a content or an application in the predetermined category will be displayed or revealed just after unlock so that user can choose to unlock accordingly.
