We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team on a contract basis in Washington, District of Columbia. This role requires expertise in managing day-to-day accounting operations, including financial reporting, payroll, and tax administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities: • Handle full-cycle accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, including preparing monthly invoices and maintaining vendor and customer records. • Reconcile multiple bank accounts and beneficiary sub-accounts, ensuring the accuracy of all transactions. • Prepare quarterly beneficiary reports and other financial documents as requested. • Maintain the general ledger and reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including preparing journal entries as needed. • Manage bi-weekly payroll processes and ensure accurate administration of payroll taxes. • Assist in preparing financial reports for bi-monthly trust and nonprofit meetings, as well as for board presentations. • Oversee the annual budget preparation and audit processes in collaboration with the Executive Director. • Maintain financial document retention files and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. • Set up and maintain vendor accounts, reconcile statements, and resolve discrepancies. • Review expense reports for accuracy, proper coding, and compliance with policies. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. • At least 3 years of experience using QuickBooks and proficiency in accounting software. • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). • 3-5 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, including financial statement preparation. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members. • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
