Overview

Provides strategic leadership and oversight of SOFIE’s accounting and financial reporting functions. Serves as the organization’s senior accounting authority, ensuring integrity, compliance, and accuracy in all financial operations. Partners closely with executive leadership, the VP Finance (leading FP&A), and broader finance teams to drive operational excellence, support strategic decision-making, and enable the company’s continued growth.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provides strategic direction for the company’s accounting operations, including the development and enforcement of internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and other relevant standards.
• Oversees preparation, accuracy, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports, ensuring insights are delivered to support executive decision-making.
• Directs the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including review and approval of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, payroll entries, and other adjustments.
• Leads the accounting team in managing the general ledger, fixed assets, tax compliance, and all regulatory reporting requirements.
• Partners with the VP Finance and FP&A team to ensure accounting processes and reporting align with forecasting, budgeting, and performance measurement needs.
• Collaborates across all functions—operations, commercial, R&D, supply chain, and corporate—to align financial processes with business goals and support cross-functional initiatives.
• Partners with the CFO to evaluate and implement accounting systems, tools, and process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and quality of reporting.
• Oversees coordination of all audit activities, including annual financial, insurance, tax (partner with external tax leads), and bank audits; serves as primary contact for external auditors and advisors.
• Advises senior management on accounting implications of business initiatives, tax considerations, and operational strategies.
• Monitors industry, regulatory, and tax developments, ensuring timely adjustments to policies and procedures.
• Develops and mentors accounting staff, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with SOFIE’s mission and values.
• Performs other financial leadership duties as required.
  
  

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly and indirectly supervises senior accounting staff and oversees the broader accounting team. Responsibilities include strategic workforce planning, hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and fostering career growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required, Master’s degree preferred.
• 8+ years progressive experience in corporate accounting, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
• Public accounting experience with a large firm strongly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and corporate tax compliance (partnering with external tax experts).
• Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, influence across functions, and drive process transformation.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build partnerships and influence at all organizational levels.
