Our client is a growing mid-sized, publicly traded company headquartered in Reston, VA, committed to innovation, operational excellence, and financial integrity. Our team is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and support strategic financial planning as we scale.
Position Summary
The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, internal controls, and audits. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, deep technical accounting knowledge, and a proactive approach to process improvement and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and other financial regulations.
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and GL management
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
Develop and manage the annual budgeting and forecasting processes
Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
Manage external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements
Work closely with executive leadership on financial strategy, KPIs, and business insights
Support M&A activity, due diligence, and integration processes as needed
Mentor and lead accounting staff to support a high-performing finance team
Evaluate and implement accounting systems and process improvements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA required)
8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Experience in a high-growth or mid-market environment preferred
Prior experience in government contracting, Energy, technology, is a plus
