About This Position

We are hiring a Director of Growth to play a key role in cultivating new client opportunities and fueling Social Driver’s business development pipeline. This person will lead the earliest stages of the client journey—identifying prospects, initiating contact, and crafting thoughtful discovery briefs that serve as the foundation for winning proposals.

This role is ideal for someone with direct experience in B2B sales—or for someone who has held leadership roles in nonprofit management, political fundraising, corporate communications, or a related field and is looking to transition into business development at a communications agency where their hands-on experience can add strategic value. Success in this position requires strong relationship-building skills, fluency in digital communications (including websites, social media, and creative services), and the ability to connect client goals to clear and compelling recommendations. The right candidate will be an excellent communicator, a strategic listener, and a trusted first point of contact for potential clients.

Objectives

The Director Of Growth Will

  • Generate qualified leads and discovery briefs that drive future revenue growth
  • Build and manage a strategic target list of ideal clients
  • Lead discovery conversations and translate insights into clear, actionable internal briefs
  • Expand Social Driver’s visibility through networking and engagement in key sectors such as healthcare, technology, nonprofits, advocacy, and associations.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, CSO, and Business Development Administrator to advance high-priority targets and qualified inbound opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Cultivation & Targeting

  • Develop and manage a strategic target list of prospective clients across corporate, nonprofit, and association sectors
  • Respond to qualified inbound leads by scheduling and leading discovery conversations that uncover client goals and challenges
  • Proactively initiate contact with prospects through thoughtful outreach and networking
  • Accurately track all outreach and activity in the CRM (Pipedrive) with accuracy and consistency

Discovery & Brief Development

  • Lead strategic discovery conversations—with both inbound leads and outbound prospects—to uncover client goals, challenges, and opportunities, and identify alignment with Social Driver’s digital and communications services.
  • Translate discovery insights into clear, actionable internal briefs for proposal and scope development
  • Secure client approval on briefs to ensure alignment and readiness for next steps

Strategic Positioning & Awareness Building

  • Represent Social Driver at in-person events, roundtables, and meetings in the D.C. area at least three days per week
  • Strengthen awareness of Social Driver’s capabilities through strategic networking and active participation in local initiatives
  • Contribute to early thought leadership and positioning conversations that help frame client challenges in digital and communications terms

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in daily business development standups and work in close coordination with the CEO, CSO, and Business Development Administrator
  • Ensure seamless handoff of qualified opportunities and approved briefs to internal teams for proposal development
  • Align briefs with internal solutioning teams to ensure efficient, insight-driven proposal creation
  • Join pitch meetings, including preparing internal teams in advance, and review proposal drafts to ensure continuity and strategic alignment with the original brief.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in business development or B2B sales — or related leadership experience in nonprofit management, political fundraising, corporate communications, or a similar role, with a desire to transition into business development at a communications agency
  • Proven success in relationship-building and managing contacts using a CRM (preferably Pipedrive)
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital communications, including websites, social media, and creative services, with the ability to translate client goals into clear, strategic briefs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong synthesis and documentation abilities
  • Confident and strategic in leading client discovery conversations
  • Location Requirement: Based in or near Washington, D.C., with availability to attend in-person meetings and events at least three days per week

  • Pipedrive or other CRM platforms
  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Slack and Asana or similar project management tools
