Under the supervision of the Yale Center for EMS Education Coordinators, the Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor is
responsible for providing academic and psychomotor skills education to various students of YCEMS and Yale New
Haven Resuscitation Programs as directed by the EMS Education Medical Director and within scope of practice
determined by the national standards of NHTSA and American Heart Association .

Responsibilities
Establishes a professional rapport with students.
Collaborates with lead instructor or coordinator to assure that appropriate level of instruction and content is
planned and executed.
Coordinates and teaches educational sessions designed to meet the needs of all levels of clinical
competence at the BLS level.
Offers verbal and written feedback to the lead instructor, administrative staff, and students on student
performance and participation.
Acts as a role model in area of expertise and professional practice by being self directed, self motivated ,
maintaining expertise and promoting the emergency medical services system.
Facilitates and models development of critical thinking, problem solving and communications skills among the
students.
Maintains current knowledge of relevant issues, trends, and practices in the area of emergency medical
services.
Promotes professional self development.
Works to identify student learning needs and outcome measures.
Works with lead instructors and other faculty to assure that the delivery of education materials and methods
meet the needs of the students.
Supports leadership in ensuring that excellent customer service standards are met.
Reinforces behaviors consistent with customer service standards.
Maintains a current knowledge base in area of adult learning principles, clinical practice and leadership.
Negotiates a personal development plan based on self evaluation and peer review.
In collaboration with the lead instructor, assists with the development and implementation of performance
improvement plans when needed.
Assists in the care and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Completion of an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic training Program
Experience
Pre-hospital experience preferred, other healthcare experience, or other needed area of expertise will be considered.
Licensure/Certification
Connecticut EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic certification/licensure required.
Special Skills
Demonstrates clinical expertise in emergency medical care and a strong ability to design and deliver engaging ,
standards-based EMT instruction. Skilled in simulation-based training, student assessment, and integrating
technology to enhance learning outcomes.
