BNY is seeking a Senior Vice President, Government Relations to help develop and execute BNYs federal public policy and government relations priorities.
The ideal candidate is strategic, collaborative and creative with a record of successfully executing on priorities and building coalitions. In this role, you will work in collaboration with colleagues on the Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team to develop and advance public policy priorities and build the bank’s profile in Washington to help position the bank with policy makers, clients and other stakeholders. You will establish yourself as a trusted advisor and collaborator, working with partners across the bank, including the bank’s senior leadership, lines of business, and partners across the bank. This role will report directly to the Head of US Government Relations and will be based in Washington, DC – 4 days/w in-office hybrid.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Collaborate to develop, prioritize and advance key public policy priorities for BNY at the federal level and engage with elected officials and policy makers.
- Collaborate with colleagues on the Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team to understand the regulatory and legislative environment that impacts our business and how it intersects with BNY strategy and interests, share information and collaborate on shared objectives.
- Build and leverage relationships with policymakers and allies externally to build coalitions that help advance key priorities and support BNY public policy engagement with trade associations, membership organizations, consultants and other allies and partners.
- Work with internal stakeholders to address public policy issues, advance solutions and serve as a trusted advisor and partner.
- Prepare briefing, presentation and advocacy materials that distill policy messages and resonate across a range of audiences, including policymakers, partners and clients.
- Represent BNY’s Political Action Committee in internal and external engagements.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required, master's degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in public policy, advocacy or government relations with engagement in the political process with policymakers and stakeholders. Background in the public or private sector and exposure to financial services issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to distill complex policies and information in succinct and compelling ways with diverse audiences.
- Proven experience collaborating and executing on policy issues across multiple stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus with the ability to independently execute tasks and deliver results.
- Creativity, curiosity and a self-starter demeanor with the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and thrive in fast-paced environments.
- Strong political acumen through understanding of federal public policy, political dynamics and the ability to be effective with members of both political parties.
- Sound judgment and exceptional organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage many competing priorities and responsibilities.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $116,000 and $220,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and company- sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
