Position Overview
The Sr. Grants Auditor conducts audits and compliance reviews of federally funded programs administered by state, tribal, and nonprofit organizations. The role ensures fiscal integrity, accountability, and compliance with federal grant requirements. Responsibilities include identifying financial risks, detecting noncompliance, recommending corrective actions, and producing detailed audit reports. Work involves planning and executing audits, analyzing financial records, and supporting programmatic and regulatory oversight to uphold the integrity and transparency of federal grant administration.
Key Responsibilities
Perform financial audits and compliance monitoring of grants awarded to states, tribes, and nonprofit organizations receiving federal funds.
Evaluate accounting systems, internal controls, and financial records for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to federal requirements.
Identify audit findings, assess risk, and prepare recommendations for corrective action.
Prepare detailed audit workpapers and reports in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS) and federal guidelines.
Collaborate with program teams, grantees, and oversight bodies to clarify audit results and support remediation efforts.
Monitor grant financial activity to detect patterns of misuse, noncompliance, or fraud.
Support continuous improvement of audit methodologies and reporting processes.
Ensure audit findings are documented clearly and follow established protocols for review and approval.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Possess a valid certification such as CPA, CIA, or equivalent
Experience in auditing or compliance monitoring of federal grants for states, tribes, or nonprofits
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
At least four years of accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting audits of programs such as LIHEAP, CSBG, CED, or AFI.
Familiarity with federal audit standards and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
Proficiency with financial auditing tools, data analytics platforms, or monitoring systems (e.g., TeamMate+).
Strong report writing, analytical, and communication skills.
