Brooksource is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Design Engineer to join our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client's Transmission Engineering team. This role requires 7–10 years of relevant experience and a strong foundation in high-voltage transmission line (HVTL) design. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution or hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
In this role, you will apply engineering processes, design criteria, and industry-standard software to design and construct HVTL systems. You will provide technical oversight and quality assurance for both internal teams and third-party contractors, ensuring all projects meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply engineering principles and software tools (e.g., PLS-CADD) to design and construct high-voltage transmission lines.
Prepare engineering estimates, design alternatives, and detailed construction specifications.
Review and approve outsourced line design work, providing technical guidance and quality assurance for external contractors.
Ensure safety is prioritized in all design and construction activities.
Understand and incorporate standards from the NESC design practices.
Support development and continuous improvement of transmission line design standards and criteria.
Provide field support for construction and maintenance teams during normal operations and emergency restoration events.
Review and validate PLS-CADD line models and complete job construction packages.
Estimate and procure materials required for transmission line projects.
Coordinate with internal departments such as planning, operations, construction, and maintenance to align design activities with business goals.
Transmit finalized construction packages and specifications to field teams.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience: 7–10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in high-voltage transmission systems.
Software Skills: Proficiency with TLD design tools and basic understanding of key applications, including PLS-CADD.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of HVTL design, construction, and maintenance processes.
Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with NESC and internal standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in quality assurance of engineering packages.
Knowledge of estimating software and procurement systems.
Previous experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Experience supporting field operations during storm response or emergency restoration.
