The event showcased inspiring directions towards more sustainable road infrastructure. GEOTEXTILE START UP This is the sound of the loom as it produces geotextiles made of 100% coconut fibre sourced from suppliers in Trinidad and Tobago. The project by Vetiver TT Ecological Engineering Solutions Ltd and partners received a contribution from the Shaping the Future of Innovation project, funded by the EU and the IDB. It ticks many boxes of importance: 1.Transforms a waste by-product previously given away to a high value product; 2.Facilitates technology transfer, training and long-term employment; 3.Contributes to import substitution and foreign exchange savings; 4.Utilises local supply of raw material for transformation; 5.The geotextiles produced will compliment the Vetiver grass used to prevent land slippage and other grey-green infrastructure projects. This was not an easy industry to enter and there have been challenges along the way, so to reach this major testing phase is a proud moment for all. Congratulations to the Vetiver Team and Partners.
