PPC is driving nature’s restoration in Evros with 660,000 bees. Through the Restart Evros initiative, we have adopted 33 beehives to regenerate local flora, enhance biodiversity, and support small-scale agricultural production, creating measurable value for both the environment and the local economy. Τhis project reflects our commitment to social innovation and sustainability. In collaboration with Bee for planet , Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and local beekeeper Giorgos Karafyllidis, Restart Evros not only contributes to the restoration of ecosystems at a local scale but also directly supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, from Climate Action and Life on Land to Decent Work and Responsible Consumption. For us at PPC, this is a strong example of how collective social action can generate long-term value for all stakeholders involved. #PPC_Group #Sustainability #RestartEvros #ClimateAction #LifeOnLand #SharedValue #BeesForThePlanet #SDGs

Koh Lanta Island in #Thailand is now collecting a 10 Baht entry fee from tourists, following the sustainable tourism model pioneered on Koh Tao. Inspired by Koh Tao’s example - where a 20 Baht fee generates over US$300,000 annually - Koh Lanta has begun mobilizing resources for biodiversity conservation. On Koh Tao, the funds are already making a tangible impact by supporting coral reef restoration, waste management, and other environmental and community initiatives. Ways to commemorate and remember our loved ones are set to expand with the establishment of artificial reef memorials in the UK, made from human ashes. Resting Reef's innovation blends death care services with biodiversity restoration - creating artificial reefs using cremated ashes combined with crushed shells and sustainable concrete. Plymouth Breakwater, at Plymouth Sound, has been selected as a viable site to replace degraded seabed with artificial memorial reefs. With views of golden beaches and clear waters, founders Louise Lenborg Skajem and Aura Murillo Pérez hope the location will provide a peaceful and meaningful resting place for loved ones while enhancing marine habitats. In an exclusive Q&A with Make Water Famous, they discuss their journey from initial concept to pilot trial in Bali, Indonesia and UK expansion, the changing cultural attitudes to death, and the challenges faced as a mission-driven start-up. Perfect reading for your Monday! ➡️ #MarineRestoration #ArtificialReefs #DeathCare #BiodiversityRestoration #Reefs #NativeOysterReefs https://lnkd.in/erwbE-Wh

The Takoradi Monkey Hill, a rare urban primate sanctuary, faces potential destruction due to the Paa Grant Interchange and Sekondi Takoradi Township Road Phase I project. While parts of the project are nearing completion, work has stalled around Monkey Hill following an environmental impact assessment that flagged serious ecological risks. Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor Frederick Faidoo explained that Monkey Hill could be developed into an ecotourism site, generating revenue while protecting its unique biodiversity. However, plans to expand the road into a dual carriageway threaten the monkeys’ habitat, particularly the tree canopies they use for movement. Consultants have recommended alternatives such as an artificial canopy to preserve the habitat. Civil society groups, including Friends of the Nation, have long pushed for the preservation of Monkey Hill’s forest cover. Yet, uncertainty remains over whether the local assembly will prioritize conservation and tourism development over road expansion. This initiative aligns with: AU Agenda 2063 Goal 7 – Environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies and communities. //Reposted 🌍 Understanding What Can Be Restored: The Relevance of the Inherent Restoration Potential of Land In a world where 60% of ecosystem services are degraded or unsustainably used, landscape restoration isn't just about replanting trees—it's about reimagining our relationship with the environment. There is often a tendency to believe that any degraded land can be restored. In tree-based land restoration, the sufficiency depends on the context and the stakeholders' perception of the extent of restoration achieved. This chapter reveals that successful restoration goes far beyond ecological interventions. It's about: ✅ Engaging local communities ✅ Understanding social-ecological systems ✅ Creating sustainable, multi-functional landscapes ✅ The inherent restoration potential of land, i.e. where is the starting point for restoration? Key insights include: - Restoration is most effective when it considers both ecological and social dimensions - Local knowledge and traditional practices are crucial - Incentives and community participation drive long-term success - Holistic approaches can be slow, but also depend on where your starting point is. The HASHI program in Tanzania, a community-driven land restoration scheme, offers a powerful example where indigenous knowledge and collaborative governance transformed a degraded landscape into a thriving ecosystem, benefiting both people and nature. As we face global challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss, this approach offers hope: restoration is not just about recovering what was lost, but creating resilient, productive landscapes for current and future generations. #SDGs #EcosystemRestoration #ClimateAction Full Chapter: https://lnkd.in/gTVPSHzG

Ocean Gardeners: Restoring Life to Our Blue Planet In an age where marine ecosystems face unprecedented threats, a new generation of “ocean gardeners” is quietly shaping the future beneath the surface. Their craft is more than science — it is precision, patience, and a profound commitment to life. Coral restoration has evolved from experimental projects to a strategic pillar in global sustainability. By nurturing coral fragments no larger than a hand, professionals and innovators cultivate vibrant nurseries that one day will rebuild entire reefs. Each outplanted coral is a living promise: shelter for marine species, resilience against coastal erosion, and a safeguard for communities who depend on the ocean. 🔹 Impact beyond the reef Coral restoration fuels local economies through eco-tourism and provides research opportunities in biotechnology, sustainable engineering, and AI-driven monitoring. It also calls for interdisciplinary talent: marine ecologists, engineers, data scientists, divers, policy makers, and investors. 🔹 Why it matters to decision-makers Healthy reefs are not just an environmental luxury; they are a global asset. Companies, foundations, and governments investing in blue restoration projects strengthen ESG performance, mitigate climate risk, and demonstrate visionary leadership. Today, “reef restoration” is no longer a niche activity — it is an emerging career ecosystem. From field technicians to senior strategists, there is room for expertise, innovation, and purpose. As someone deeply engaged in marine and coastal solutions, I see this movement as a call for collaboration between science, technology, and industry. Together, we can accelerate scalable models that regenerate the ocean’s natural capital. - A challenge for HR & sponsors worldwide How can we attract, train, and retain talent willing to work at the edge of exploration and sustainability? The answer lies in building partnerships that merge research, entrepreneurship, and community-driven action. The future of reefs depends on a network of people ready to plant hope underwater — and to cultivate it until it thrives. Coral Smith #OceanRestoration #BlueEconomy #CoralReef #MarineInnovation
