I still feel that often discussions around AI in scholarly publishing focus on how to catch bad actors. That’s an essential use case. But it’s only one part of the story. There are many more opportunities for impact, both positive and negative. And to truly understand them, we need to hear from those who experience this shift first-hand: researchers and industry veterans. So let’s ask the bigger question: How do we preserve the human voice in AI-enhanced publishing? 🔗 Registration link in the comments.

🔍 Research Radar: RAND on AI-Enabled Policymaking: Opportunities, Obstacles, and the Road Ahead For Reboot Democracy, The Burnes Center's Dane Gambrell writes about the recent report on May's workshop cohosted by RAND, The Stimson Center, and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change exploring how AI can support more effective policymaking. 📝 AI shows promise for automating routine tasks and democratizing access to analysis tools, but there are significant structural barriers to realizing AI's potential in policymaking. To move forward, we need more real-world case studies of AI use in governance and strategic adoption focused on maintaining human oversight and building the skills to deploy these tools responsibly. 👥 Read the full post: https://lnkd.in/eqn6rD-e 🔗

AI isn’t just showing up in research papers; it’s reshaping the systems that publish them. https://hubs.li/Q03FNsX40 From undetected content generation to AI-assisted peer review, platform builders now play a direct role in maintaining scientific integrity. What we’re seeing: ‣ Disclosure isn’t happening ‣ Detection tools are missing ‣ Editorial workflows aren’t ready The opportunity? Build systems that make responsible AI use visible, traceable, and manageable.

Silverchair has published its first annual report on the Future of Peer Review – have you read it yet? We found their insights and discussion on AI and research integrity particularly interesting, and the assertion that these tools should be considered as an enhancement to our ability to scale and not a replacement for human judgment is something that resonates with us strongly. At PA EDitorial we believe that AI works best when it is combined with human judgement and expert knowledge. Applying a human-in-the-loop model lets AI automation do the heavy lifting, and lets people provide the perspective. This approach isn’t just efficient; it’s also ethically necessary. Researcher careers, reputations, and lives depend on the decisions we make. And while AI can assist, it shouldn’t be the final arbiter. Do you agree? Big results in government AI don’t always start with big programs. In this new white paper from Iron Mountain and ATARC (Advanced Technology Academic Research Center), public sector leaders share how some of the most effective AI efforts are starting small—focused, manageable use cases that solve real problems, build trust in the data, and pave the way for broader adoption. This is how agencies are scaling AI with intention—one win, one workflow, one foundation at a time. Explore the strategy: https://ow.ly/aacz50WBwB2 #StrategicScaling #OneIronMountain

I recently attended an insightful webinar on the "Role of AI in scientific writing", organized by Springer Nature for ONOS member institutes. The session, held on September 1, 2025, offered valuable insights into how AI can support our writing endeavors while upholding ethical standards. One key takeaway was the reminder that AI is a tool to enhance our organization and efficiency, but it cannot replace the critical thinking that forms the foundation of scientific inquiry. Embracing this balance between technology and human intellect will be essential as we navigate the future of research and writing.

💡AI is no longer just a tool - it’s becoming a co-researcher. Yesterday at the British Accounting & Finance Association SWAG Conference, I had the pleasure of giving a keynote on the opportunities and synergies that AI is creating for accounting and finance research. 👉 In a nutshell: We went through several examples of AI transforming and enhancing the research #cycle - from design, ideation, and hypothesis development, through literature review, data collection, and empirical analysis, to interpretation and cross-disciplinary translation. ⚠️ The caveat: Alongside these benefits come important risks. Researchers (and journals) must remain vigilant against practices such as #HARKing (Hypothesising After Results are Known), p-hacking, and associated publication #biases that AI could exacerbate. The challenge for our academic community is clear: to embrace AI’s potential while safeguarding the integrity of our research... 📊📚⚖️ Thanks Giulia Fantini and Brian Telford for the invitation. #ArtificialIntelligence #FinanceResearch #AccountingResearch #ResearchIntegrity
