We often talk about Smarter Cocoa, but what does this actually mean in practice? 🤔 Launched in 2021, the Smarter Cocoa Charter is ECOM’s company-wide cocoa sustainability strategy, built on 17 time-bound targets across our sustainability pillars to strengthen resilient and responsible supply chains. By 2024, after three years of implementation, we completed several KPIs and gained valuable learnings. Building on this foundation, we set new mid-term KPIs to address evolving farmer, community, and industry needs. The Smarter Cocoa Charter, like our sustainability approach, continues to evolve. We are proud of the progress we’ve made so far, but we aim to go further, recognizing that achieving a truly sustainable cocoa sector at scale is a long road ahead. 🌱 Have a look at our new KPIs below 👇 the full list can be found on page 13 of our 2024 Cocoa Sustainability Report! https://lnkd.in/gg5fVEnx #smartercocoa #smarterfutureforcocoa #sustainablecocoa #cocoasustainabilityreport #growinginnovators

Together with ASR Group, we are advancing human rights in the sugar supply chain across Brazil and Philippines. These efforts, as documented in their latest Sustainability Report FY24 include: 🌱 Brazil 🪴 Using income from the Bonsucro Credit Trading Platform, the Bonsucro Impact Fund (BIF) supports projects that promote sustainable sugarcane production. One such project, co-founded by ASR Group, Barry Callebaut Group, General Mills, The Hershey Company, and Nestlé, and led by Proforest and Imaflora, created a practical toolkit that guides mills through the due diligence process and offers tools to help implementation. The aim is to improve human rights in sugarcane mills, as well as among suppliers and service providers. 🌱 Philippines 🪴 In 2024, the Responsible Sourcing from Small Farmer (RSS) in the Philippines Sugar Sector Program in North Negros Occidental celebrated its eighth anniversary. Since its inception, the program has supported around 4,300 farmers from 102 Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organisation (ARBO) groups, covering nearly 3,300 hectares. Each year, selected ARBOs receive active support from RSS. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eBAiZ3HF
We’re proud to announce the release of our FY2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting our continued progress toward our Sustainability Vision to be the most sustainable and ethical sugarcane company. Discover the report here: https://lnkd.in/eBAiZ3HF.

What is the Sustainability, that we should seek? I have been reflecting deeply on food and its many intersections, and I wonder if the true sustainability we seek lies not only in specificity but in resisting commodification and instead turning toward the forgotten or underutilized ingredients that are native or adopted within certain regions. These ingredients thrive with little or no negative impact on the environment. For food to be truly sustainable, it must be familiar to its people, rooted in their cultural identity and everyday lives; it must also be familiar to the climate it inhabits, able to adapt naturally without forcing ecosystems to bend; and above all, it must be accessible, not just available to a privileged few. Without these three compasses of cultural familiarity, ecological fit, and social access, sustainability risks becoming abstract and disconnected. Imagine offering a Yoruba man pounded potatoes instead of pounded yams: he may eat it once out of necessity, but he will not return to it, because it does not resonate with his sense of food identity. In this way, many global agendas on sustainable food overlook the simple truth that people will not embrace what does not feel like theirs, no matter how green or innovative it may be. Sustainability isn’t abstract. It’s tangible, alive, and sitting right here in these fresh cocoa beans. 🌱 This freshly cut cocoa pod, showing the fresh white beans inside, is more than the start of chocolate. It’s a reminder that sustainability begins at the source - on farms, with families and communities whose livelihoods depend on it. Each pod tells a story of hard work, resilience, and the challenges farmers face in the midst of climate change and shifting markets. As sustainability leaders, our role is to connect global commitments with local realities by: 🌍 Building traceable supply chains from farm to consumer 🤝 Ensuring farmers earn a fair and dignified living 🌳 Supporting climate-smart practices that protect ecosystems Sustainability is not declared - it is nurtured. These fresh cocoa beans remind me to keep asking: Are we making choices today that leave tomorrow’s food systems more resilient, inclusive, and just? Because in the end, sustainability isn’t a destination - it’s a daily practice we share with intention and responsibility. 🌱 #SustainabilityLeadership #CocoaValueChain #ClimateResilience #FairTrade #FutureOfFood

🌍♻️ Spirit of Progress: Refreshing Our Packaging Goals 📦✨ I'm incredibly proud to share how we're evolving our packaging strategy to better support both our planet 🌱 and our business 📈. See the inspiring video below from our Chief Sustainability Officer, Ewan Andrew. We're officially retiring our 10% packaging weight reduction target, as the absolute nature of the packaging weight competes with volume growth. But that doesn't mean we're stopping! 💡 Lightweighting will continue to be a critical tool—reducing both carbon emissions 🌫️ and improving COGS efficiency 💰. ✅ In FY25, we smashed our target—achieving 43% recycled content in our plastic bottles, well above our 35% goal! 🥳 This is especially meaningful as we had reset our previous 40% target in FY24 due to supply constraints, technical barriers. and evolving legislation Despite these challenges, we delivered a 21% increase in just one year 🚀—a huge testament to the resilience, creativity, and dedication of our teams and partners across the value chain 🤝. 💪 We’re not stopping here. We’ll keep pushing for incremental gains and smarter materials in the years ahead. 📘 Full details can be found in our Annual Report - https://lnkd.in/e3qPpRuS #SustainablePackaging #RecycledContent #CircularEconomy #PackagingGoals #CO2Reduction #Innovation #SustainabilityInAction #Teamwork #AnnualReport #Diageo
In 2020, when we set ambitious environmental sustainability goals as part of our Sprit of Progress action plan, we didn’t have all the answers. But we knew progress would require innovation, long-term commitment and supportive policy environments. Five years on, we have better data, deeper insights and a clearer view of the practical realities to deliver net zero. Today, alongside our Annual Report, we’re updating our sustainability goals, with some important adjustments to our carbon and packaging goals to give us a stronger, more credible path forward. Our revised targets include: Reducing our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, reaching net zero in direct operations by 2040 Reducing our scope 3 emissions by 26% by 2030 and achieving net zero across scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2050 Increasing the percentage of recycled content in our packaging to 50% by 2030 Implementing 10 regenerative agriculture programmes by 2030 In the video below, I explain the updates to our targets, our successes, and our rationale, so please do have a watch. Thank you to everyone who has helped us get this far, our suppliers, our partners, and our people – for your dedication, knowledge and passion. https://lnkd.in/eK7e2MCg Read our Annual Report at: https://lnkd.in/eSZXTBb4 #SpiritOfProgress #Diageo #ESG
