𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (MICP) is showing how biology can transform remediation by strengthening soils, protecting groundwater, and even trapping heavy metals. This natural “microbial cement” could reshape the future of soil health and environmental repair. 👉 Read more about how microbes are becoming miners in our latest blog post by Berenice Di Biase: https://lnkd.in/eC56z3r7

A new study coauthored by researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and CSANR shows that cover crops can be harvested for biofuel without reducing cash crop yields. Through a new technology called hydrothermal liquefaction, crops like triticale and hairy vetch could be converted into low-carbon fuel that cuts greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70% compared to fossil fuels. 🔗 Open access: https://lnkd.in/eKKuEyDs 📸 CSANR's Teal Potter and Doug Collins in front of a triticale plot at the Puyallup research site. Elevated CO2 and plant nutrient uptake 💨🌱 📈 Elevated atmospheric CO₂ can boost plant growth, but this is fundamentally limited by the availability of essential soil nutrients. 🌱 Current climate models often underestimate global carbon storage because they fail to account for the sophisticated ways plants adapt to this nutrient scarcity. 🔎 Plants actively acquire nutrients by increasing root biomass to explore more soil and by forming mycorrhizal associations with fungi that act as an extended root system. 🦠 They also prime the soil by releasing carbon to stimulate bacteria, which then decompose organic matter and release vital nitrogen. 📊 A new calculation by Cambron et al. 2025 confirms that ecosystems using these strategies absorb nearly 12% more CO₂ than previously thought. 🌍 By ignoring these adaptations, models may be underestimating the Earth's land-based carbon sink by as much as 25%. 🍃 Biochar Carbon Removal: A Sustainable Path to Carbon Neutral ⚠️ Carbon emissions are driving global climate change. Active #CarbonRemoval is now urgent! 💡 Biochar offers a sustainable solution—achieving #CarbonSequestration for centries while delivering cross-industry value. 🌱 How #BiocharCarbonRemoval Works? - Through photosynthesis, biomass captures CO₂ during growth. - If biomass is degraded or incinerated, carbon returns as CO₂/CH₄. - Pyrolysis sequesters carbon inside biomass into stable biochar. - Stored in durable environment, biochar resistant to degradation for centuries. 🔄 Application Value of Biochar - Agriculture: Soil improvement & sustainable farming. - Forestry: Ecosystem restoration & wildfire avoidance. - Construction: Low-carbon building materials. - Animal Husbandry: Healthier livestock & better environment. 💰 Economic Value of Biochar Carbon Removal - 1 ton biochar ≈ 2–2.5 CDR credits. - Biochar account for over 80% of global #CDR deliveries. - As market demand grows, biochar credit prices have reached $150–$250/t.
