The construction of the Wichita Biomedical Campus has been making significant progress in Downtown Wichita. The WBC will combine Wichita State University, WSU Tech, and the University of Kansas in a state-of-the-art facility. The new space will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and improve the future of healthcare for communities in downtown Wichita and surrounding areas. "Sometimes when we learn in our individual silos, we don't put enough emphasis on the team approach — understanding each skill set, what they have and can do for patient care. I think that (the new campus) is going to give us more opportunity to have students working together as a team, because when you get out into the real world, that's what happens," said Lynn Fisher, M.D., Associate Professor in the KU Wichita Department of Family & Community Medicine. The Biosymmetrix project at UCONN Health has helped over 30 breast cancer survivors of CT with their customized, non-implantable breast prosthetic needs. The project is important and requires more philanthropic funding to support it since private insurance agencies and Medicare typically deny coverage for customized prosthetics that restore symmetry and self-confidence. Fortunately, women covered by Medicaid in Connecticut can receive customized prosthetics without the hurdle of the medically-necessary clause that currently prevents most women from getting them. CT legislators recognized the transformative effects of customized prosthetics on breast cancer survivors and the cost-savings of customized bra inserts relative to surgically-placed implants. Thank you CT and thank you Anne Hughes, State Representative who pushed forward legislature this year in support of coverage for customized prosthetics. In response to the legislation that was passed in June 2025, the CT Dept of Social Services are now promoting their full coverage of this equally-superior way of restoring a symmetrical appearance of breasts, that doesn't require surgery. Thank you CT Breast Health Initiative and the Beekley Family Foundation for their generous support that brought the project to where it is today.
