Last week saw the publication of the Government's Defence Industrial Strategy. If the Strategic Defense republished before the summer was the what does the Ministry of Defence needs to do? The death was very much intended as the how is it going to do it? The first was wrapped pipeline visibility and the culture around acquisition, the second was around streamlining and restructuring towards innovation ecosystem and the third was about the Ministry of Defence as a reliable customer industry. On the 1st V DISC commits the Ministry of Defence to publishing A5 year acquisition pipeline with a commitment to look to expand that in the future. While we strongly welcome that, what we ask is what the Ministry of Defense can do to give industry a broader sense of the sorts of technologies and capabilities it's going to require in the future. They don't have to yet be committed to named programs of record, but what can Ministry Defense do? To give industry that broader insight as to where investment is likely to go in the future. Secondly, as previously announced by the Chancellor back in March and again in the Strategic Defense Review, the Defense Industrial Strategy sets out the segmented approach that the morning is going to take towards procurement, setting much faster deadlines for contracting on platforms. On new technology, previously announces the creation of UK Defence Innovation, bringing together J Hub, the Defence and Security Accelerator and future capability innovation. Into one organization, this is something that Medicare has argued very, very strongly about in the past, with members talking about duplication and inefficiencies found right across MODS innovation ecosystem. The critical challenge for KDDI is to ensure that those investments made by the Ministry of Defence ultimately produce results for them. Talking to those within UK DI, it's really positive to hear the commitment to ensure that capability sponsorship throughout that funding cycle. To ensure that those that are receiving funding are ultimately producing something that the Ministry of Defence needs to buy. We're not simply paying businesses to be clever, we're paying them to make things that we need. That is most as a reliable customer industry, we strongly welcome the creation of the Defence Office small business growth and it's been great to take UK has been able to be a part of the working group on shaping its functions. The office should provide SME's with greater access to legal and contracting support as well as better access to finance. But a lot of the problems that our members face are a lot of policy for the wrong capacity delayed. Contracting and delays in getting bills paid. Ministry of Defence currently has 16,000 suppliers on its books and while it's great to see mode commitment for more business to SMEs, it has to have the people in place in order to ensure it can service those contracts properly. Industry understands that the board must find efficiencies in its ways of working, but it has to do those in partnership with industry and it must understand that clunky, ham fisted attempts at doing this simply undermine its reputation as a reliable customer. So what next? Take UK would like to see a revision of the departments digital strategy aimed at assuring rapid reform of its information technology capabilities. This means tackling legacy and obsolescence within the defence ecosystem. It also means going beyond secure by design and achieving integration by design as well. Finally, Mod working in partnership with the rest of government, particularly DSET, Where? Huge amounts of work on things like AI Assurance has already been completed to ensure that what mod is not replicating work already done, and this is something we'll be driving through Tech UK membership of the Defence Industrial Joint Council. Today marks the final day of DSEI 2025, and what a week it has been - from our CTO Ben Whitham's fantastic talk at the AUKUS Pavilion, to the exciting launches of the National Armaments Directorate and the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command.
