Some may see my Campus AI Framework and Becoming Framework as aspirational or even idealistic. That may be true, and I also think they are worth aspiring toward. The key is making them pragmatic, grounded in governance, campus readiness, and the ethical dilemmas leaders face. Next month, I’ll be sharing the Campus AI Framework at ASU’s Agentic AI and Student Experience conference. I am not presenting it as a finished product, but as an invitation to dialogue on how higher education can adopt AI in ethical, holistic, and participatory ways. Progress comes when vision and pragmatism move together. That’s how flourishing and well-being on our campuses become possible. I expand on these ideas in my latest article: Aspirational but Grounded: Leading AI in Higher Education with Pragmatic Idealism https://lnkd.in/gQJshvR6 #campusaiexchange #responsibleleadership #highered cc Technology at Arizona State University

Honored to see COGNIATE featured in Thomas Frey CSP Frey's latest thought-provoking analysis: "The $1.8 Trillion Education Apocalypse: Why Traditional Universities Will Vanish Faster Than Blockbuster" In this compelling piece, Dr. Frey explores the seismic shifts transforming education and specifically highlights platforms like Cogniate as part of the infrastructure enabling educators to "create AI-assisted, competency-based courses in minutes rather than months." As the AI education market explodes from $5.88 billion in 2024 to a projected $32.27 billion by 2030, we're not just witnessing incremental change—we're in the midst of what Dr. Frey calls an "exponential transformation." The future of learning isn't coming; it's here. With many organisations starting to drop University education as a requirement, how will upskilling and reskilling be addressed in your organisation? What is the value of Degrees and Certificates, or is a new skills validation economy emerging? I can't help but reflect on the many insightful talks by Sir Ken Robinson, positioning the current educational system not as a foe, but not as a friedn either.... Amen, "Assessment is changing. There is a move away from memory recall exams towards authentic, workplace-ready tasks. AI is changing what is worth testing."
AI is changing the way we learn and assess in higher education The future of UK higher education feels like it is standing at a crossroads. One path could bring more flexible, skills-based, and employer-connected learning. Technology could make education more personal, more accessible, and more relevant. The other path could lead to a widening gap. Institutions may face reduced funding, slow adoption of technology, and fewer opportunities for those who need learning the most. From my recent research into AI in learning and assessment, it is clear we are entering a pivotal moment. AI-powered tools can give students personalised feedback within seconds. This allows tutors to spend more time on deeper coaching and mentoring. Generative technology can create real-world scenarios where learners can apply knowledge in a safe-to-fail environment. Assessment is changing. There is a move away from memory recall exams towards authentic, workplace-ready tasks. AI is changing what is worth testing. None of this will happen without action. The universities that succeed will be the ones that build strong partnerships with employers. They will invest in inclusive and scalable technology. They will design assessments that measure the human skills AI cannot replace. The big question is whether we will use AI to close gaps in learning and opportunity or whether it will make them wider. The choices made in the next few years will shape UK higher education for the next decade. What do you think? Are we heading towards a connected and credible future, or one that is strained and divided? #HigherEducation #AIinEducation #FutureOfLearning #AssessmentInnovation #LifelongLearning

Universities are under growing pressure to modernize. Many are being challenged on the absence of AI literacy in their courses, while also trying to stay globally competitive amid falling enrolments and funding pressures. Recent QS World University Rankings saw Oxford, Cambridge and over 50 other institutions drop, following broader concerns that the UK higher education sector is losing ground on innovation, investment and academic freedom. With employers now expecting AI-literate graduates, questions around student readiness are emerging. Many graduates still leave university with limited hands-on experience with AI tools, while others misuse them altogether… https://lnkd.in/gJCTYMRF

As I shared with Alison Griffin in this new Forbes piece, nearly 1 in 10 higher education institutions have no AI strategy at all. That’s a five-alarm fire. We’ve already seen the consequences when colleges treat transformative technology as experimental—the pandemic exposed how unprepared many were for the shift to online learning. With AI, the risks are even greater. Without coherent strategies, institutions risk leaving students—and the future workforce—unprepared for a data-driven economy. https://lnkd.in/e_gBWnFZ
