We’re excited to kick off 𝗤𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝘀: A look behind the scenes at features we’re working on. 👀 First up: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀. Just like chalk lines on site, these temporary curves help you sketch, guide, and adapt without locking anything down. In Qonic they can: ✔️ Slice along curves, not just planes ✔️Add layers with custom shapes and heights ✔️Stay linked to surfaces, so when walls move, curves move too Small detail, big impact. ⚡ That’s the kind of thinking we love in Qonic. #QonicLabs #BIMwithoutBoundaries #construction #openBIM

We think 3D modelling tools in Qonic should feel as intuitive and familiar as the real ones on a construction site. That’s why our modelling features are inspired by everyday construction tools. For example, our measure tool works just like a laser measure on-site; Walls are built up as assemblies – starting with bricks, then insulation, and finally finishes; and many more examples. In this new feature below 👇, sketch lines appear as “chalk curves” – temporary guides that help you outline before building.

Following up on my previous posts, today I explored placing 'real-world' sleepers using OpenRail 2024 Generative Components, trying to build a parametric trapezoidal monoblock sleeper. The complexity quickly became clear—while the parametric approach offers flexibility, it also presented significant software stability issues, especially when used over longer track sections. After several attempts and software crashes at even over 100m length of track, I understood its not gonna work. Switching to a static cell approach proved much more reliable. Not only does it handle canted tracks, but it also remains stable for alignments extending beyond 5+ km. This seems to be the practical way forward for sleeper placement in open track. Looking ahead, I’m interested in enriching the static cells with details like fastenings and rail pads to further enhance model realism. Integrating an Excel-based input system is another exciting step—this would allow for targeted control, such as adjusting sleeper spacing in specific zones (like stations or around drainage features). That said, turnout (S&C) remains the real challenge (and feels like the final boss in a video game 😅), with its complex requirements for special sleepers and long bearers. How are others handling sleeper modeling in Turnout areas? Would love to hear – share your approaches, solutions, or headaches! #OpenRail2024 #RailDesign #ComputationalDesign #BentleySystems #BIM #ParametricModeling #RailEngineering

In BIM, organizing data is everything. Uniclass 2015 is the internationally recognized classification system that ensures projects are structured, consistent, and interoperable. It classifies every level of a project: Complexes (Co) → Universities, Business Parks Entities (En) → Buildings, Bridges, Roads Activities (Ac) → Teaching, Dining Spaces (SL) → Studios, Reception Areas Elements (EF) → Roofs, Bridge Piers Systems (Ss) → Steel Roof Framing Products (Pr) → Roofing Clamps, Steel Beams Each code is built from structured pairs of characters, making every asset organized, searchable, and standardized across international, national, and company levels. U That’s how BIM achieves true collaboration and efficiency. #BIM #Uniclass2015 #BIMStandards #AutodeskRevit #BIMModeling #BIMEngineer #ConstructionTech

From photograph to precise architectural elevation in seconds. 🏛️ This workflow shows the power of AI in a technical design context. We took a photo of the ornate gate at Dolmabahçe Palace and, using Wavey AI with the Nano Banana model, converted it into a crisp, CAD-style line art drawing. The process: Super Upscale: The original image was enhanced to ensure maximum detail. Generate Elevation: The model created a clean, multi-weight line drawing from the upscaled photo. This is a massive time-saver for architects, engineers, and designers, automating the initial stages of creating technical drawings from real-world structures. #AI #Architecture #CAD #AEC #GenerativeAI #DesignTech #WaveyAI #LineArt

In the Heritage sector, every detail counts. 3D scanning surveys allow us to digitally preserve historic buildings with millimetre precision. From intricate stonework to large structural elements, laser scanning captures accurate data without intrusive methods that could risk damaging fragile features. By converting these scans into BIM models, conservation teams gain a powerful tool to plan restorations, monitor deterioration, and share accurate records with future generations. At Tower 3D Modelling, we believe heritage deserves the best of modern technology to safeguard the past for tomorrow. #3DScanning #Heritage #BIM #DigitalPreservation #LaserScanning #HistoricBuildings #ScanToBIM

Sustainability defines the future of making. Together with Fluidra, ARKANCE supported the renovation of pools for the Santiago 2023 Games, embedding energy efficiency and sustainable practices into every design choice. This success was powered by BIM modelling and integrated workflows, enabling precision, collaboration, and sustainable outcomes. Join our BIM-focused session at Autodesk University 2025 on Tuesday, 16 September to see how BIM workflows deliver both performance and responsibility in projects like Fluidra’s.
