Shell, in collaboration with RML Group, has developed a novel dielectric cooling fluid called EV-Plus for electric vehicle batteries. This fluid manages battery temperature, enabling ultra-fast charging — from 10% to 80% in under ten minutes — without the risk of damaging heat buildup that typically degrades battery cells. Leveraging Shell's experience with transformer oils, the non-conductive fluid can safely contact all internal battery components. The company calculates that an efficient EV could regain up to 24 km of range per minute of charging, a significant leap from the current average of about 5 km. While larger batteries will take longer to charge, this technology promises to be a major global breakthrough for EV owners, drastically reducing charging times and improving battery longevity. #technology
