⚓ Industry Launches AI Tool to Combat Rise in Cargo Fires The World Shipping Council (WSC) has introduced a new AI-powered cargo screening tool to address a growing problem of cargo fires, which reached a decade-high in 2024. These fires are mostly caused by misdeclared or undeclared hazardous goods — often things like lithium-ion batteries. 🔍 Key Details 🔹The new system scans millions of cargo bookings in real time, checking for patterns and anomalies that suggest dangerous goods might be onboard. 🔹Carriers who together represent about 70% of global container freight capacity have already signed on. 🔹The tool is part of wider safety efforts, supported by maritime insurers and regulatory interest, to reduce risk and improve transparency. 🔗 Official Source: https://lnkd.in/dUMwQ_G8 🚢 Techno Fleet – Your Reliable Crewing Partner. 📧 Contact us: crewing@technofleet.org 🔗 Follow us on Telegram: https://t.me/Technfleet 🌐 Our website: https://technofleet.org/ #MaritimeSafety #CargoFires #AIinShipping #ShippingSafety #Seafarers #CrewSafety #MaritimeInnovation #GlobalShipping #ShipManagement #MaritimeNews

AI tackles shipping’s fire hazard. Ship fires are at their highest level in a decade, and misdeclared hazardous cargo is one of the biggest culprits. The World Shipping Council has launched the Cargo Safety Program, bringing together carriers representing more than 70% of global TEU capacity. Using an AI-powered screening tool, the system scans millions of bookings in real time to flag dangerous shipments before they are loaded. Shared inspection standards and a feedback loop aim to make seas safer for crews, vessels, cargo and the environment. 🚢 67 Containers Overboard at Port of Long Beach (USA)- What We Can Learn Recently, 67 containers toppled from a vessel near Pier G, leading to cargo loss, damage to nearby infrastructure, and temporary operational disruption. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but this incident is a wake-up call for the global logistics community. Key Lessons -Even with standard securing procedures, imbalances and lashing failures can trigger domino collapses. -Submerged or drifting containers pose hidden environmental, financial and safety risks. -Operational and reputational costs extend far beyond the immediate cargo loss. Where the Focus Should Be ✅ Accurate weight declarations – to maintain proper stack balance ✅ Stronger lashing & securing standards –> backed by regular inspections and quality gear ✅ AI & sensor-based monitoring –> real-time visibility to detect risks before escalation ✅ Robust cargo insurance & contracts –> because even the best systems cannot prevent every accident ✅ Emergency response readiness –> clear protocols between vessel, port and authorities 🏅As Maritime Analytica rightly emphasized: modernization with AI, dynamic sensors and predictive safety systems is no longer optional, it’s essential. 🌍 Ultimately, resilience is built at the container level. Every secured box protects not just cargo, but lives, supply chains and the integrity of global trade itself.

The World Shipping Councial (WSC) will combine the power of AI with ordinary inspection standards in an effort to reduce the numbers of fires and cargo accidents caused by mis-declared freight. According to the Allianz Safety and Shipping Review 2025 ship fires have reached their highest levels in a decade and mis-declared dangerous cargoes are the major causes of these fires. Shippers can mis-declare freight intentionally to avoid paying premium freight rates, or unintentionally not realising that the freight that they have packed can heat up as the ship sails across the ocean. https://lnkd.in/eW_RNKZd
