This week at the SEFI - European Society for Engineering Education conference in Tampere I was inspired by the keynote plenary: “Engineering Sustainability: Skills, Responsibility, and Innovation.” The key message was clear: Sustainability is not an add-on – it is a core competence. Engineers also hold responsibility for shaping the future, where sustainable innovation and transferable skills must go hand in hand. The challenges are complex – requiring interdisciplinary cooperation, an adapting mindset, and above all shared responsibility between academia and industry.
