The District with the Least Green Space in Istanbul: Güngören A recent study highlights the district of Güngören in Istanbul as a district with the least green space and the weakest ecological conditions in the city. According to the Istanbul Green City Index, conducted by Marmara University and TÜBİTAK (2023–2025), the findings are stark: Green space per capita is critically low, trees are almost impossible to find in this area. The distance to emergency assembly areas of 500 meters is also among the lowest in Istanbul. The high impermeable surface area and low average traffic speeds increase environmental pressure. Air quality ranking: Güngören is only 26th out of 39 districts. Day 99 – Are Our Buildings Serving Us or Draining Us? 🌍🏛 Over 80% of the buildings we occupy seem to serve themselves more than us consuming endless energy, water, and resources, while giving back pollution, waste, and rising bills. A building that isn’t passively designed to work with its local climate should hardly be called a shelter, i mean who should?? True architecture should function more like nature: 🌳 giving shade, regulating comfort, and sustaining life, not draining it. That’s why nature-based architecture resonates so strongly wit me. It’s about turning buildings into living ecosystems that produce energy and water, recycle waste, and create healthier spaces. As the post I’m resharing powerfully states: “Buildings are not meant to drain the planet or our wallets.” Sustainable cities and communities are not optional. Rather than attempting to plan for every contingency, enduring urban design must build in flexibility—an openness to change that makes space for both the unforeseen and the unknowable.
