Proud to share that our lab built a collaborative Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) machine for composite manufacturing, and has already used it for coupon manufacturing. Our goal is to make advanced composite manufacturing accessible and affordable for education, research, training, and small-to-medium businesses. Thanks my Phd student's hard work MD RAQIBUL HASAN PRINCE, and help from Ronald Delahoussaye. More applications and features to come. Stay tuned. #AutomatedFiberPlacement #Composites #AdvancedManufacturing #Robotics #AdvancedManufacturing

Quite an impressive and amazing feat Dr. Zhao. Automated Fiber Placement remains the future of Advanced Manufacturing, and it is nice to see the industry growing at an exponential pace. Composite manufacturing in itself alongside the complexities that comes with it makes this project even more impressive. Hyped to see what the future holds !. Congratulations to your team. Cheers.

Congratulations Wei and Team! It’s always interesting to see different approaches to solving a major problem in the composites industry - making advanced manufacturing more accessible for research and SMEs. In our experience, Cobots aren’t rigid enough to have the high level repeatability often expected of the AFP process. Have you noticed the same issues?

It's great to see the robotic arm in act, congratulations Dr. Wei Zhao and Team! What temperature are you using for the printing bed? Have you look into how the bed temperature affects the quality of the layup, particularly in terms of interlayer bonding and consolidation? Also, did you perform autoclave curing on the printed laminate? If I'm not mistaken, the matrix in the prepreg tape you're using is a thermoset, right?
