3 Secrets to Become a “Super Communicator"
What makes some people so good at influencing others?
That’s the big question in “Super Communicators” by Charles Duhigg.
Here’s my 3 favourite takeaways:
🪞 1. Match the Conversation Type
There are three "types" of conversation: practical, emotional, and social. If someone’s in an emotional space, and you’re speaking practically, you’ll miss the mark. Great communicators spot and adapt.
Example: a client seems sceptical or uncertain (emotional), rather than hitting them with data (practical) share a relatable story to build trust.
💭 2. Ask Deep Questions
We’ve all met someone who talks endlessly about themselves — zero charisma! Super communicators flip this by asking thoughtful questions that make others feel valued. Charisma isn’t just about how you feel, it’s about how you make other people feel.
Tip: Focusing on other people also helps you to feel less self-conscious.
📖 3. Tell More Stories
A vivid story sparks emotion and sticks longer than facts or stats. Science backs this: a process called “entrainment” syncs our brains when we hear stories. I’m leaning into in my content, here are 2 stories I shared on YouTube shorts:
The catch is, it's a struggle to land these tactics when your nerves are out of control.
It's hard to think about connection, or interesting questions, when your fight-flight-freeze response is sounding the alarm.
The good news is, we have a tried and tested programme for transforming anxiety into confidence, and helping you find your inner charisma.
If that sounds interesting, it might be time to book in a call.
To your public speaking success!
