AFTS' global roadshow & mixer made a stop in Nairobi, Kenya, last Friday, 20th June 2025, at the Nairobi Street Kitchen headed by Foster Awintiti Akugri, Head of Partnerships & Government Relations and Susan Waweru, Chief of Staff! The Mixer brought fintech ecosystem stakeholders for an interactive and fun night in the run-up to AFTSACCRA25, taking place in Accra from October 8 to 10, 2025

USA - ACKWEST Group, a first-party data creation company, today announced the acquisition of Safiyo, a mobile-first research platform specializing in real-time consumer insights across Africa.

Nigeria - Chowdeck has acquired Mira, a restaurant point-of-sale and management system, in a move that underscores the startup’s push beyond last-mile logistics into the operational core of food businesses.

Ghana: Bank of Ghana is set to implement sweeping reforms to deepen digital finance inclusion and interoperability in the country, with a clear push towards biometric authentication, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and open banking standards.

Stablecoin, Crypto & Blockchain Activity

Africa: Stablecoin adoption in Africa took another leap with a partnership announced with AFTS sponsor and partner Visa and AFTS' AE pitch competition past participant and African financial infrastructure giant Yellow Card! As part of the partnership, the two will explore opportunities to streamline treasury operations, enhance liquidity management, and enable faster and more cost-effective transfers. Sub-Saharan Africa: AFTS' Partner The SME Finance Forum, Managed by IFC, has issued a call for Expression of Interest for the IFC Catalytic First Loss to support Climate, Agriculture, and Women MSMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa (‘SSA’). Financial service providers and Fintech lending to MSMEs are encouraged to read the criteria and apply for the facility aimed at unlocking funding gaps to MSMEs in Africa by covering the default risks of qualified lenders. Deadline for application is 25 June, and apply HERE

Ghana: AFTS' long-time partners, Onafriq and Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS)announced the launch of a new cross-border payment service that will initially pilot outbound transactions in Ghana. Effective immediately, banks partnering with PAPSS and Onafriq’s authorised fintech, mobile money service providers and traditional partners in Ghana can enable their customers to send and receive money directly into mobile wallets and bank accounts.
