Align to a cause, not a camp

The centre of gravity has shifted to neighbourhoods. While this holds promise, one thing that worries Ruth Rankine , director of the NHS Confederation’s Primary Care Network, is the prospect of a “power struggle”. A struggle “as people get fixated on who’s going to be the neighbourhood lead.”

That’s why a recent saying from an integrated care board – “align to a cause, not a camp” –resonated.

“This is about people from different organisations coming together around a common cause, rather than the ‘what's in it for me/ my organisation?’ perspective,” Ruth explains.

South East London is a case in point.

The system, led by Andrew Bland , has made rapid progress towards neighbourhood health services across Bexley, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. Integrators have been key to their success. In the latest episode of Health on the Line, Andrew joins Ruth and Matthew Taylor to unpack how the area is turning policy into practice – and to what effect.

The discussion is the latest in our series exploring the implications, opportunities and challenges of the 10 Year Health Plan. A new episode drops on 3 September.

Tune in for insights on neighbourhood working and get the latest scoop from Ian Perrin , assistant director at the NHS Confederation, on developments around ICB redundancies and funding concerns.

This very much resonates. Causes not camps means avoiding behaviours which means aligning to values, missions, purposes and learning to navigate away from entities which develop cultish behaviours. The best leaders will be vigilant to any form of grooming within the cause of movement. The following article by Nathalie Martinek is a great start on how to do this. Leaders must heal from residue of any cultish behaviour still ingrained in their body. https://www.hackingnarcissism.com/p/cult
