#CelebratingCommunityServices: AI-powered wound care receives high commendation
Community nurses across the West London NHS Trust are using the latest AI tools to monitor, treat and escalate wound care.
The Minuteful for Wound (MfW) AI wound management tool was created by Healthy.io and enables clinicians to capture consistent, high-quality wound assessments, helping to improve communication and empowering staff at all levels.
West London NHS Trust was highly commended at the recent HTN AI and Data Awards for its implementation of the wound management tool which was first rolled out in 2022.
Since then, teams within local services, including district nursing, podiatry and Clayponds hospital ward staff, have supported over 55,900 wound assessments for more than 3,100 patients.
A matron from the continence and tissue viability team said: “Using the app, our teams can now see wounds in real time and offer accurate clinical advice straight away. AI will never replace clinical judgment, but this tool enhances it—it’s transforming care delivery.”
With the system in place, clinicians can receive immediate support from colleagues, who can review images remotely and provide real-time advice.
For managers, the system offers the ability to generate detailed reports on healing rates, improvements, deteriorations, and overall progress, enabling them to monitor outcomes more effectively and ensure better care delivery.
All this week, together with NHS Providers , we are showcasing the impact of NHS community services on people’s lives and highlighting the vital role these services play in keeping communities healthy.
