Allied and Partner Chiefs of Defence meet to discuss deterrence and defence
On 15-16 January 2025, the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
32 Allied Chiefs of Defence together with their military counterparts from 27 Partners discussed NATO’s vigilance & deterrence, strengthening military partnerships, and continued support to Ukraine. The two-day session was finalised by the NATO-Ukraine Council with the Ukrainian Chief of Defence.

Admiral Cavo Dragone takes over from Admiral Bauer as Chair of the NATO Military Committee
Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone assumed the role of Chair of the NATO Military Committee, officially receiving the gavel from his predecessor, Admiral Rob Bauer, during a special session of the Military Committee.
Following the session, during a special ceremony, the NATO headquarters said goodbye to Admiral Bauer. He expressed why the Alliance is so vital in today’s global environment. Stating, “We are the shield for the innocent. We are what stands between freedom and oppression.”
NATO launches 'Baltic Sentry' to increase critical infrastructure security
NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte co-hosted a Summit of Baltic Sea Allies, along with President Alexander Stubb of Finland and Prime Minister Kristen Michal of Estonia.
At the meeting in Helsinki, Mr Rutte announced the launch of a new military activity by NATO to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure. “Baltic Sentry” will enhance NATO’s military presence in the Baltic Sea and improve Allies’ ability to respond to destabilizing acts.

As a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of North Macedonia, Ms Shekerinska has extensive experience as a policy-maker and consensus-builder. She is a champion of gender balance and a steadfast advocate of strong transatlantic relations.
An emotional homecoming for 🇺🇸 US soldiers
When soldiers deploy, they leave behind their families and loved ones. The separation can weigh heavily on service members, and when the soldier finally returns home, the reunion is full of powerful emotions.
This was the scene that greeted soldiers from the US Army’s Third Infantry Division when they came home to Fort Stewart, Georgia. It followed a 10-month deployment to Eastern Europe, where they trained alongside NATO Allies and provided a strong presence in the region.
NATO Deputy Secretary General in Sweden: Allies must step up support for Ukraine
In her first major public engagement as NATO Deputy Secretary General, Radmila Šekerinska praised Sweden for its increased defence spending, leading defence industry and strong support to Ukraine. Speaking at the annual Folk och Försvar conference in Sälen, the Deputy Secretary General also highlighted the changed security landscape following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Secretary General urges continued close NATO-EU cooperation to support Ukraine and face growing threats
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Subcommittee on Security and Defence. He gave an overview of NATO priorities, including defence spending and production, and support to Ukraine and answered questions from Members of the European Parliament.

Finnish jets securing the skies in the Arctic Region 🛡️

NATO Deputy Secretary General in Lithuania: NATO will deter any aggression
NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska concluded a three-day visit to Lithuania, where she attended the Snow Meeting 2025 in Trakai and met NATO forces at the Rukla military base.
In Rukla, the Deputy Secretary General met with troops from NATO’s Forward Land Forces, led by Germany, and Lithuania’s Iron Wolf Brigade. She praised their professionalism and dedication, and said their presence, “sends an unmistakable message. Lithuania does not stand alone. NATO will deter any aggression. One for all, and all for one.”
