Positive Swedish Power Balance Next Winter

Positive Swedish Power Balance Next Winter
Svenska Kraftnät’s forecast of the power balance for the upcoming winter has improved since last year’s forecast. Sweden is estimated to have a national power balance during the peak load hour of plus 600 MWh/h in case of a normal winter, and minus 600 MWh/h during a ten-year winter. The increased optimism mainly comes because of raised price awareness among consumers. Crucially, the report depicts varying power balances for the south (SE4 & 3) and north (SE1 & 2) of Sweden and importing electricity may be needed to support the limited transmission capacity of the national electricity grid.
EU Presents Guidance on Future-proof Grids
The European Commission has presented a guidance document for expected investments in developing future-proof and forward-looking electricity grids. The document addresses individual countries and their national regulations, as well as transmission and distribution system operators. Estimated costs amount to €1.2 trillion in necessary grid investments by 2040. Key points include robust network planning, regulatory oversight, and clear cost/incentive mechanisms. The guidance document is part of a broader European Grids Package expected in late 2025.
$280M Californian Solar & Battery Initiative
The Californian Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has initiated a $280M program assisting low-income households of the state in installing battery storage and solar panel systems. The initiative is part of the CPUC’s Self-Generation Incentive Program and targets single-family households with incentives for a 15kWh battery and 5kWh solar system. The program utilizes both the CPUC’s financial incentives with IRA tax credits, giving customers up to $1,100 per kWh of storage and $3,100 per kWh of solar.
