bp’s energy transition shows how tech can power a more sustainable world
I have been calling 2021 “the year of digital optimism” because technology is playing such a critical role in so many important areas: enabling the future of hybrid work, bringing resiliency to global supply chains, reinvigorating small businesses, achieving sustainability, and doing all of this while providing a foundation to keep businesses secure.
As I reflect on this week’s Inspire conference, I am excited about what comes next.
To that end, I had the chance to meet up with William Lin, Executive Vice President for Regions, Cities & Solutions at bp, to talk about sustainability and the role technology is playing in bp’s energy transition.
At Microsoft, we believe that a successful energy transition depends on a collective effort that involves investment and input from companies like bp that have decades of expertise in innovating and delivering energy solutions.
Today bp is pioneering a new frontier by reimagining energy for people and the planet. Aiming to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner, bp is developing low carbon solutions to help countries, cities, corporations, and consumers do the same.

The demands placed on the world’s energy infrastructure are only going up. There is no question that companies in every industry have to find ways to be greener and more efficient.
In this year of digital optimism, we are seeing the role that technology will play in driving this transition. It is a year of empowerment for companies effecting real change, and we are investing in the areas that matter most to our customers so they can thrive in the future.
If you were unable to join us at Inspire this week, all of our sessions are available on demand. Check them out to learn more about how bp and other customers and partners are putting new solutions and technologies to work to tackle some of the world’s most important challenges.

4yIt was such an excellent session & a truly brilliant showcase of the impact a true strategic partnership can have. Just love that with technology drones can inspect & maintain wind farm blades rather than sending humans up ladders to look. 💥
