Your weekly staffing snapshot
Memorial Day = 7% drop in staffing hours
Staffing hours in all sectors declined due to the short Memorial Day work week in the latest Staffing Industry Analysts | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator. Declines were in line with previous years and hours are expected to return to pre-holiday patterns. The year-over-year comparison has been slowly but steadily improving since Spring Break in late April, with current hours only 3% below where they were this week in 2024.
Recruitment by the numbers
After a shaky start to the year, manufacturing may be finding its footing. Job openings in the sector dipped 7% from March to April, but held firm through May and June. Transportation, a closely linked industry, is following a similar trajectory.
Engage Boston 2025: How will AI shape the recruitment industry?

How AI is making work more human
A new Salesforce survey shows that HR leaders expect to shift nearly a quarter of their workforce into new roles as AI takes over routine tasks. The rapid rise of agentic AI is sparking what some are calling a “human skills renaissance”—a time when soft skills like creativity, critical thinking, and leadership become more valuable than ever. Matthew Fischer, President and COO of Bullhorn, puts it simply: AI isn’t replacing people—it’s making their jobs more human.
