Carve your own Journey #Episode 29
That evening, Vaidehi nudged herself for a bubble bath and changed into a light yellow dress that fell just below her knees and swooped on the bed, with a novel tied in her arms
Rested her heavy head on the pillow, rolling over and over again and for some time she silently closed her eyes on her printed bed sheet. She lay on the bed and stared out of the window, till the light slowly faded to pitch black darkness, the dark night reflecting her state of mind. She recalled the day, five years ago, when she and Kabir had a controversial fight and their ego had resisted them from talking to each other for ages.
“Don’t you think I have become quite popular after being in a relationship with Mridula,” Kabir said arrogantly.
“Ya so, how does that matter?” Vaidehi replied, her frown lines increased their prominence.
“Well, I meant that, Even you should try dating, you are eighteen now, I know that it’s not that easy and neither everyone is that lucky,” He remarked with aloofness.
“What do you mean to say?” Her eyes had shuffled to scarlet just like her sleeveless red top, with strip of her hair flowing around her shoulders.
“Everyone used to know me by your name as you are quite popular due to brain and grace but now I am known as a cool guy who has a cute girlfriend,” He spit it out with an expanding surge of pride.
“Okay, By the way even i have dated, In fact i am still kind of in a relationship but it so far, it never made any difference,” Vaidehi confessed finally, her eyes twitching with displeasure.
“Wait what who... who is he and you never shared with me regarding it,” His breath took a deep pause and he inhaled deeply.
“Yup, I don’t wander around the school and tell every man on earth about this. You call it to be personal. It’s actually more than public.” She replied in a high pitched voice, her body shivering with rage.
“How long did you disguise it for me and who the hell is he?” He exasperated
“Because telling lies is always better than having a complicated discussion” She took a pause and continued. “Well maybe a year and his name is Arjun our classmate, remember” She disclosed, turning her head away.
“You... You could have at least kept me posted about it I was your best friend” He nodded, as he pushed his fist against the walls, squeezing her elbow
“Yes....You were, but we are not now,” She remarked with a grim.
“Oh my god...If i would have known earlier you were into dating and stuff, i would have asked you out long back,” He exclaimed, increasing his grip on her fingers.
“Well then what exactly fenced you, just because you had a weak eye sight and it took ages for you to realize me being a girl, that doesn’t mean no one else perceived , ” His hand was brutally thrown down as she released his grip over her shoulders.
“I always wanted to ask you out but i never got a perfect moment,” He shuddered.
“Because we hung out together every day for five years,” Her eye transfixed with Kabir’s holding them with a challenging glint.
“I did try... Ok so...I think this is the end,” His eyes narrowed with tears and he exhaled slowly and continued “So bye let’s hope we never see each other again,” He scratched on the back of his neck as his voice trailed.
“Yup, wow this is the first time, that we are on the same page,” She replied and deeply inhaled and continued “I’ll miss you,” Vaidehi finally uttered, as she closed her eyes.
“I don’t think I will,” He was pretty good at lying but little did he know that the words had shattered her heart into pieces and Arjun was waiting to wipe her tears and then fled away.
He walked away with anger in his nerves. Vaidu hoped that he would turn back at least once but he didn’t” And at last ego had conquered and destroyed their everlasting friendship into tiny irrelevant bits of paper, scattered around in the brief air.
Vaidehi submerged in her memory ride had taken an abrupt break back to reality after she encountered the voice of her mom,
“Coming mum,”Vaidehi replied .When she stood up and straightened up the silken bed sheet she noticed a piece of paper fall down.
It was passed on to her by Kabir while leaving. She gently enfolded the piece of paper.
“Meet me tomorrow at the gardens at five. I know you will turn up.” It proclaimed in messy hand writing.
