Celebrating 15 Years of MTM Transit: A Journey of Innovation, Growth, and Impact

This October marks an exciting milestone for myself and everyone at MTM Transit —our 15th anniversary. Reflecting on how far we’ve come, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. What started as an extension of my family’s company, MTM Health , has evolved into a thriving organization committed to providing accessible, reliable transportation to communities across the nation.

MTM’s story began in 1995 when my father, Lynn Griswold, and my stepmother, Peg, founded the company to address a critical challenge: helping health plans and government organizations arrange transportation services for Medicaid and Medicare members. They saw the complexities firsthand and set out to make healthcare more accessible through transportation. Since then, MTM has grown into the largest privately-owned non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) broker in the nation, but we’ve never wavered from our mission of improving people’s lives.

As MTM grew, we began spotting new opportunities to expand our transportation solutions into the public transit sector. This shift was a natural fit for us. After years of mastering transportation logistics for NEMT, I realized we had the experience and resources to serve transit-dependent populations outside of healthcare. In 2009, I decided to launch MTM Transit to fill that gap.

Starting MTM Transit wasn’t just about expanding our business—it was about staying true to our values. We knew that public transit is vital for providing access to local resources and promoting healthy, productive lives. By offering services like Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit, demand response, microtransit, and fixed route service operations, we knew we could help make communities more connected and accessible.

A Focus on Service and Growth

Over the past 15 years, MTM Transit has grown to 40 operating divisions in 17 states and the District of Columbia, providing over 2.9 million trips annually and covering more than 27 million miles. With more than 1,700 employees, we now offer a wide range of services, including mobility management programs like ADA eligibility assessments, travel training, and quality assurance support.

But no matter how much we’ve grown, our focus has always been on delivering high-quality service with integrity and respect. Our motto, “Every Trip is Important,” is more than just words—it reflects our commitment to treating each passenger with dignity and providing safe, reliable transportation they can count on.

Building Lasting Partnerships

One of the things I’m most proud of is the long-term partnerships we’ve built with our clients. We’ve never had a contract terminated early, and many of our clients have extended their agreements with us multiple times—including one of our longest-term partnerships with CapMetro in Austin, Texas. I believe this success comes from our focus on quality over quantity. By staying privately held, we’re able to invest in our people, maintain a hands-on management style, and put the needs of our clients and their passengers above all else.

I also believe that a company’s success is built on the strength of its culture. At MTM Transit, we’ve cultivated a workplace where employees feel valued and supported, which is reflected in our low turnover and strong performance. It’s important to me that we continue to foster this culture as we grow, ensuring that we remain responsive and agile in meeting the needs of our clients.

Looking to the Future

As we celebrate 15 years of MTM Transit, I’m filled with gratitude for our incredible team, our clients, and the communities we serve. Together, we’ve built something truly special. I’m excited about the future and the opportunities ahead as we continue to innovate and grow. Our mission will always remain the same: to provide access to vital resources, create connections, and enhance the quality of life for those who rely on us. Here’s to the next 15 years of making every trip important—one trip at a time. Thank you to our employees, clients, and passengers for being a part of this journey!
