Cholera outbreak in the Eastern provinces
A new ACAPS briefing highlights the alarming spread of cholera across the Democratic Republic of Congo, where over 38,000 suspected cases and nearly 1,000 deaths were reported between January and July 2025.
The outbreak is affecting 17 of the country’s 26 provinces, with the eastern region particularly hard hit. Flooding, displacement from conflict, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation are driving the rapid increase in cases. The crisis is putting immense pressure on already overstretched health services and increasing the risk of further spread. This briefing provides key data and insights into the evolving situation.
