DSO in Action Spring Series
Spring is in the air so is our latest series of DSO webinars!
Taking place in the last week of March, our ‘DSO in Action’ Spring Series webinars are the ideal way to learn more about how Distribution System Operations (DSO) applies to you, as well as how it can unlock solutions for data, heat, flexibility and more!
As well as giving us the chance to share information with our customers and stakeholders, events such as the Spring Series also play an important role in our planning processes and discussions – the feedback from these sessions means a lot and so we’d love to hear from you!

DSO Service Statement
This week we published our Service Statement to guide stakeholders through our DSO governance arrangements. The document details the measures we have taken to mitigate conflicts of interest and outlines the capabilities we have put in place to ensure we operate efficiently and effectively to deliver maximum customer benefits. It also contains some ‘worked examples’ so you can see the process in action!
In this document you'll see the fundamental principles we apply to the provision of DSO services, how our DSO and wider DNO functions interact, the tools and processes we utilise to make key decisions and how our Advisory Board perform independent customer focussed scrutiny and challenge (Our DSO Advisory Board’s annual report will be published next week so look out for it!).
The structures, tools and capabilities detailed in this document constitute our ‘code of conduct’ to which all SSEN DSO colleagues adhere so we can ensure maximum benefits for our stakeholders and avoid conflict of interest.
Community Energy Report
We’ve published our first Community Energy Regional Report in collaboration with Community Energy England and Community Energy Scotland.
Community Energy is the generation of electricity locally, by assets local communities themselves own and operate. Unlocking its potential is a vital step towards meeting the target for a clean power system by 2030. This research provides valuable insight into the current state of the sector and enables us to better support and collaborate with community energy organisations to make sure they play a full role in the drive towards net zero.
Upcoming Events and Opportunities
Network Insights Series
Following our DSO in Action Autumn Series, we heard from our stakeholders that they would like to understand opportunities on our network and reduce the need for one-to-one pre-connection application surgeries or speculative connection requests. Based on that feedback we introduced a Network Insights Series which we host quarterly.
The second event is taking place on Thursday 13th March 2025 from 1pm to 2.30pm via Microsoft Teams. This event will gather interested stakeholders across all segments, to discuss our approach to strategic development on the Distribution Network, an example of how this is applied to a GSP, plus give an overview of what resources are available on our website to support your decision making.
Connections Reform Webinar Mini-Series: Capacity Reallocation
10 March, 0900 - 1600
Part of the Connections Reform updates to give to customers on a regular basis. Short presentation followed by a Q&A session.
Connections Innovative Design & Technical Policy Comms webinar
11 March, 1430 - 1530
We want to engage with our stakeholders more to get their ideas and suggestions for innovative design and technical policy. Therefore, we have set up quarterly meetings to enable discussion with the aim of getting a joint understanding of where we want to get to in the future
Connections Surgery
12 March, 0900 - 1600
A virtual meeting at which you can talk to our experts if you need network information for a specific site(s). Our Connections Surgery Meetings let you discuss your projects with our experts from the early planning stages so you can make informed decisions about your projects!
