REPowerEU Roadmap
As Europe continues to navigate the path toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future, we highlight the recent important communication of the Commission: REPowerEU Roadmap. This ambitious initiative marks a major step forward in reducing the EU’s dependence on fossil fuels and accelerating the deployment of renewable gases, including biomethane.
The REPowerEU plan not only reinforces the strategic importance of biogas in achieving energy independence but also aligns closely with the EBA’s vision of a circular, climate-neutral economy. This roadmap is a first step to fully empower our sector to scale up production, foster innovation, and contribute meaningfully to Europe’s green transition.
In parallel, EBA has unveiled its Roadmap towards 2040, outlining a bold vision for the future of the biogases value chain. This strategic document calls for a binding EU target for renewable gases, aiming to unlock the full potential of circular and affordable energy for Europe. You can read more about it in the section below.
Welcome our new board!
May 6th we celebrated EBA General Assembly in Brussels. EBA members played a central role in shaping the future of our association by electing a new President and Board, who will lead our mission to scale up sustainable biogas and biomethane production across Europe over the next three years.
A warm welcome to our new President Piero Gattoni and Board members: Michael Niederbacher , Annette Kroll , PJ McCarthy, Guillaume Tuffigo , Sandra Esteves , Stefan Dr. Rauh , Coen Meijers and Maria Malmkvist . 🎉
Accelerating Biomethane Deployment: A Call to Action!
Leading biomethane off-takers have come together in the Biomethane Off-takers Declaration to call for higher support for biomethane production and offtake. Led by the European Biogas Association, this initiative emphasises biomethane’s essential role in achieving Europe’s climate neutrality objectives while ensuring the continent’s global competitiveness. More than 30 companies have already signed the declaration. 🙌

Policy Pulse: 2040 Climate Target
The EBA Roadmap 2040 calls for a binding EU-level target for biomethane production to unlock the full potential of biogases in delivering circular, affordable, and secure energy. It outlines a strategic vision to scale up the entire biogas value chain, supporting climate goals and energy independence. The roadmap also emphasizes the need for long-term policy support, infrastructure development, and innovation to ensure the sector’s growth and resilience. 🌱
