International Confex was a hit

Team Liverpool was well represented with regional partners at this year's International Confex down in Excel London on 26-27 February.

We were joined by six tremendous partners who were ACC Liverpool, Sodexo Live!, Royal Liver Suite at The Royal Liver Building, National Museums Liverpool, Floral Pavilion Theatre & Conference Centre and Halton Borough Council.

Both days were very productive with time spent meeting lots of new people enquiring about bringing a conference or event to Liverpool City Region plus catching up with new and existing clients.

On the stand, we hosted our annual drinks reception, sponsored by Sodexo Live!, which proved to be busy and fruitful. As well as this, we launched the brand new Liverpool City Region Event Planners' Guide on the stand, with plenty of people taking a copy.

More details will be announced soon on where you can find us next so stay tuned.

Andy Harrison, International Bidding Manager at Liverpool Convention Bureau, recently attended the second Visit Association Conference at ICC Wales in Newport.

Hosted by VisitBritain in partnership with MeetEngland, Meet in Wales, and VisitScotland Business Events, the conference carried the theme "Bid for Today, Bid for Tomorrow." It brought together 70 industry professionals, including representatives from UK nations, city convention bureaus, international associations, and professional conference organisers (PCOs).

A central focus of the conference was the evolving challenges in bidding for international association events. Discussions explored how the perspectives of associations, destinations, and PCOs could be better aligned to create more successful and competitive bids.

Another key topic of debate was the effectiveness of ambassador programmes. While many destinations highlighted their benefits, associations and PCOs emphasised the importance of broader decision-making processes. The discussion highlighted the need for transparency and strategic alignment when leveraging ambassador networks in bidding efforts.

The role of AI in event planning was another prominent theme. Industry experts advised destinations to embrace AI as a tool to enhance, rather than disrupt, the sector. AI-driven efficiencies were highlighted as key opportunities for improving bid strategies and streamlining processes.

Beyond the insightful discussions, the conference provided valuable networking opportunities. A Welsh-themed evening at Celtic Manor facilitated further engagement with industry peers, leading to the generation of a couple of new leads for Liverpool as a future conference destination.

The conference proved to be an invaluable experience, offering Andy the opportunity to build new relationships, gain key industry insights, and promote Liverpool as a premier destination for international events. The knowledge and connections gained will contribute to strengthening Liverpool’s future bidding strategies.
