The First & Final Frontier - Mindset
Growth Mindset, Fixed Mindset, Results Mindset, Money Mindset, New Mindset, Outward Mindset, Inward Mindset, I can't blame you for thinking that the topic of mindset starts to sound like a bunch of confusing motivational dribble, unfortunately for the most part that's exactly what it is...
We're constantly bombarded by content that tells us which stance to take, which mindset to adopt, which gurus to follow, what our values should be, hell even I've been guilty of subscribing to and doing this.
The reality is far simpler, your mindset is there to serve in what it is that you actually want in that given moment, it's there to stop you during a key moment and get you to understand what perspective your taking when you make that crucial decision, it's there to make you more empathetic to not only your situation but the situation of others, it's there to remind you of the big picture during the small moments.
Breaking Down the Power of Mindset
If you've ever woken up after a few too many beers and too few hours sleep then you know what it means to carry a crappy mood for the day, you probably know what its like to say something stupid that you regret 24 hours later, to make a decision that turns your week upside-down, to agree to attend some event that you'd rather not.
It's times like this, when your weak, not strong, that having a good mindset becomes crucial, having the ability to stop, think and understand what perspective your taking before taking an action is what will determine whether that crappy day will set you back or propel you forward.
Building Your Mindset Foundation
While there are numerous ways to build a solid foundation when it comes to your mindset I've found that two things are universally true to building one, I've listed them briefly below.
No Excuses, if your someone who legitimately wants to grow as a person then eliminating excuses from your life is where you absolutely have to begin, while I understand there are plenty of things that are unfair and you've probably been through a lot, so has almost everyone else, complaining about it won't get you to where you want to be, it'll only serve to waste your time and the time of the unfortunate people who have to sit through your rants.
Understand Your Perspective, this is a lot trickier, I like to think of this as being able to see yourself and your situation in 3rd person as an observer, typically you can achieve a better perspective by asking yourself the right questions before an important moment, am I in a crappy mood?, am I more likely to react negatively or overly positively, what will likely happen if I do?, these questions serve to help you understand the current character your carrying.
There you have it folks, my current take on mindset and how to best utilise it, hopefully it serves to help someone out there, I would love to hear your takes on the topic, feel free to comment below :).

7yThanks for sharing Boris, some great insights here. In working with Sales Leaders, we work a lot on mindset, and one of the simplest methods I've found that resonates with them is to measure mindset on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being unresourceful, 10 being resourceful. Each day, they ask themselves a question when they walk across the threshold at work, 'Where is my mindset on a scale of 1-10?' Whatever the number is, the follow up question is 'Will that number allow me to be super effective today? If the answer is 'yes', great. If the answer is 'no', the question then becomes "What number does it need to be?", and there are techniques to get there. Great message Boris - mindset is so important.
