Canada: Updates to Mercury Regulations 

  • The Government of Canada has updated regulations on mercury-containing products to protect the environment and public health, in line with its obligations under the Minamata Convention. Changes include reduced mercury content in lamps, phase-out dates, elimination of exemptions and expanded compliance accreditation. United States: EPA Proposes Rule to Reduce Risks from N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) 

  • EPA has proposed a new rule under TSCA to limit exposure to NMP due to health risks. It includes use bans, container size limits, workplace controls as well as recordkeeping and labelling requirements.   • The ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) have evaluated key sectors affected by the EU-wide proposal to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). India: Updates on Polymer Product Standards and Sodium Bromide Revision

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) invites public comments on the first revision of the standard for pure grade sodium bromide (IS 2780). The revised standard includes updated test methods and specifications for purity and packaging Read more.
  • India’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) has extended the enforcement dates for Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for four polymer products to September 6, 2024. Singapore: Revised Compliance Dates for Chemicals under Stockholm Convention
