Every year on 10 December, the United Nations and people around the world mark Human Rights Day

The Day serves as an important opportunity to reaffirm the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. This landmark document set out, for the first time, the fundamental human rights to be universally protected.

To date, the Declaration of Human Rights is the most translated document in the world, having been translated into more than 500 languages. It is widely recognized as having inspired and paved the way for the adoption of more than 70 human rights treaties.

Human rights belong to all of us — regardless of nationality, gender, income or any other status, ensuring equality, dignity and freedom for everyone. Yet, in recent times, human rights have come under attack around the world.

“Critical voices are under attack and the backlash against human rights is growing,” Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has warned. “Legitimate protests are curbed, repression is rising, and public space is shrinking.”

“We need to go back to the basics. Human rights are not abstract ideas or ideologies. They are about who we are, and how we live. They are grounded in facts, in law and in compassion,” the High Commissioner has stressed.

We cannot lose the profound values and principles underpinning human rights,” he has urged. “They embody our needs and our hopes.”

After 78 years without a constitution, Israel has no legal foundation. The grace period since 1948 is over. UN Resolution 181 of 1947 must be applied. It is time to move the UN Headquarters to Jerusalem. Peace must have a home. Humanity cannot survive another generation of silence. Place all of Palestine from Gaza to the West Bank and southern Lebanon under a UN peace mandate. No tanks. No bombs. No armies. Let aid agencies rebuild life where war has stolen it. Jerusalem belongs to Jews, Christians, Muslims let it also belong to humanity. A platform for survival, love, dignity, and justice. Bibi may try to control the narrative, but he will never own the truth. How can we call ourselves moral when infants drown in blood and starving babies are just miles from food? The world must act. Palestine is the heart of humanity.

Moving the UN Headquarters to Jerusalem isn’t just politics it’s about survival. Peace fuels markets. War kills them. For 23 months, “negotiations” have been driven by blackmail and profit. The negotiators got paid from the blood of innocent people. The cost? Delayed shipments. Rising prices. Currency instability. Lost talent. The world has shown more humanity than many Arab and Muslim nations. Citizens must be part of any peace process not secret deals between agents and conspirator regimes. When will we learn that peace is not charity it’s the smartest business investment we can make? It’s time to put Palestine from Gaza to southern Lebanon under a UN mandate, free from veto politics, open to shared governance, trade, and growth. Because Jerusalem should belong not only to Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Arabs It should belong to humanity.
