🔹 One Question, Many Answers I asked seven different AI tools this simple question and got wildly different results, ranging from 7 to 23 million. Same question. Same year (2025). A 4X spread. Turns out, even “simple” questions sometimes need... clarification.
🔹 NYC? MSA? CSA? MA? Say What? The answers varied because each AI tool referred to a different definition of “New York.” So, here’s the cheat sheet:
🔹 The (Mostly) Final Answers Despite years of media-driven doom scenarios, NYC and its metro area aren’t disappearing—they’re growing. My favorite tools for this query? 1️. ChatGPT-4o: 8.8M (NYC) and 22.5M (NYCMA) and 2️. Perplexity: 8.4M and 22.0M 💯 Respectable estimates.
3. My own cross-referenced estimates: 8.9M (NYC) and 22.75M (NYCMA). So, in 2025, somewhere between 8.4–8.9 million live in NYC and 22.0–22.75 million in NYC Metro Area.
🔹 ‘Danke Sean’ At the very end, I typed “Danke Sean” to the #AI tools, and this is what I got:
🔹 Bottom Line for YOU: #AI is amazing, but we still have a long way to go before it answers even simple questions consistently.

4moWe all understand that AI is in its beginning stage and the full blossom of AI and its maturity will probably occur in tens of years from now. AI results are based on some official data, that means system has to be so efficient to capture every single human being living in NY & track it. But then you get into the ethics, freedom/rights to move, temporary vs permanent work force, etc - subjects that touch upon geo-political maters. China has developed a satellite system, including the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) & Yaogan remote-sensing satellites, for various purposes, including navigation, surveillance & potentially tracking cargo & other objects from space.
