How To Setup VMware Virtual LAB For VCP-DCV Certification.
Hi,
From today onwards, I am starting a series on "how to configure vmware virtual home lab for practicing vcp-dcv certification.
For this, I would recommend a good configuration desktop or laptop with maximum RAM and CPU.
I have Leveno i5, with 16 GB laptop. I will be setting up this lab on this. As per my understanding , This will be good configuration for performing lab practices.
So, lets discuss what are the minimum requirement for esxi installation and vcenter. First , I will install vSphere 5.5 and vCenter 5.5. However VMware has released 6.5 version as well. But I am doing this for a reason and the reason is that I would perform upgrade from 5.5 to 6.0 or 6.5. You may start with any version you like to start with.
Esxi 5.5 will require minimum 5GB Disk space and 4 GB or Memory for its installation. But here is a trick. After installing esxi , you can modify your esxi virtual machine's memory to 2 GB and esxi will run fine with that too. But this is not recommended in production. But for lab purpose, when you have less memory available to you, you can try this.
For vCenter 5.5, You would be requiring 10 GB of Disk Space Minimum and 4 GB of Memory. Apart from this, you would have Microsoft .Net Framework installed on the server. This server should not have Active Directory Install on it. But should be part of domain.
First I will install 2 Esxi server, 1 Domain Controller and then 1 Vcenter.
Please stay tune to next blog for installation of esxi Hypervisors.
