I Pledge …

I Pledge …

A few days ago, I wrote about Hardening of the Hearteries, a recently diagnosed disease that’s impacting all of us. I also invited you to get clear on your own heartfelt values.

Personally, it was an interesting exercise to identify what really mattered to me. More importantly, it gave me a code to live by.

I thought it would be helpful if I shared the pledge that I wrote for myself. Here it is:

  1. I choose to think, live, and act in the spirit of possibility.
  2. I will bring my initiative, common sense, and decency to my family, community, country and the world.
  3. I will work with others to find new ways to solve the challenges we face and the future we want to create.
  4. I commit to making a difference in thought, word, and deed in some way—every day.
  5. I’ll do this with laughter, dedication, integrity, and love—because it’s the right thing to do.

If you’d like a copy of it, you can download it here.

This crucial step combats the Hardening of the Hearteries epidemic that’s afflicting many and impacting more.

A powerful reminder that softening our hearts is often the first step to real change. Thank you for highlighting what truly matters.

That "Hardening of the Hearteries" phrase is clever wordplay but the pledge itself feels a bit generic - initiative and decency are admirable but quite broad concepts. The spirit of possibility framing is positive though most meaningful change requires more specific action than general mindset shifts. Thanks for sharing this approach, Jill Konrath
